Undead Unluckis finally coming back, and it’s getting a glow-up that a series like it deserves. Not long after season 1 of the anime ended, it was revealed that the anime would return with a one-hour special in late 2025, something that would undoubtedly lead to a full-fledged second season later down the line.
Not much is known about theUndead Unluckspecial, but it’s been revealed thatSunghoo Park, director ofJujutsu Kaisenseason 1 andJujutsu Kaisen 0, will direct theUndead Unluckspecial at E&H Production. Unfortunately, David Production couldn’t remain in charge of the series, but a change like this is exactly what a story likeUndead Unluckdeserves.

A big part of why the changes for theUndead Unluckanime are good comes from how badUndead Unluckseason 1was. Season 1 was constantly brought down by middling animation and terrible pacing, especially with its overabundance of flashbacks, and sinceUndead Unluckis known for its fast pace and action, that always made it hard to watch.
That’s why it’s great that Sunghoo Park is taking over; whether it’sJujutsu Kaisenat MAPPA orMonstersat E&H Production, Park is a director who always knows how to get the most out of stylish action stories, so if anyone can makeUndead Unlucklook good after a season of looking average at best, it would be him.
Some of that can even be seen in the teaser for the one-hour special. While there wasn’t a lot of new footage,Undead Unluck’s artwork and animation already look far better with E&H Production than they ever did with David Production, and the finished product will likely be one of the most gorgeous anime of the year, by far.
As much as fans and critics reveredUndead Unluck, the series was never that popular during its run and ended with little to no fanfare; much of that was due to some of the more eccentric parts of the manga, but the poor handling of the anime likely didn’t help matters, either.
However, with someone like Sunghoo Park at the helm, the anime will finally be able to convey everything great aboutUndead Unluck, and that could finally give it the recognition it deserves. HavingJujutsu Kaisen’s director take overUndead Unluckwas a brilliant idea, and hopefully, the finished product will showcase that even further.
