One of the most beloved characters in the28 Days Laterfranchise ended up with a surprising ending thanks to a retcon in28 Years Later. The horror series about ‘zombes’ fueledby the Rage Virushas seen a lot of characters end up with tragic fates, but one hero wound up getting a happy ending after all.

In28 Days Later #24by Michael Alan Nelson and Alejandro Aragon, Selena and her ally Clint have successfully made it to Paris and are preparing to leave Europe for good. They spend their last day reflecting on the horrors they survived before Selena finally tosses away her machete to leave that part of her life behind.

The two head to the airport and board a flight for New York City. A crashed helicopter briefly holds up their flight, but thankfully, the plane is cleared for take-off. Selena and Clint head out to America to start their new life,just as a swarm of infected arrive in Paris.

The film ended with a shot of infected people rampaging through the streets of Paris, implying the Rage Virus had hit continental Europe. However,28 Years Laterconfirmed the virus was pushed back and contained in the British Isles.

Whilethe28 Days Latercomicends with Selena making her escape to America, the re-emergence of the Rage Virus puts her future in doubt. But, as shown in 28 Years Later, it’s really only those stuck under the quarantine who continue to live with the infected. Butlife for the rest of the world, including Selena, went on.

28 Days Laterand its subsequent films are pretty bleak and rarely, if ever, do people end up better than they started. It would have been in-line with the series if Selena had escaped the infected in Europe only to end up in another outbreak. But thankfully,28 Years Latermakes it clear that Selena ended up alright.

It’s hard to imagine anyone getting a happy ending in this horrifying franchise. But28 Years Laterconfirmed Rage Virus was pushed back and stayed off of continental Europe. Fans can be rest assured that no matter what she went through in28 Days Later, Selena got a good ending.
