Star Wars’first and only live-action TV show set inthe High Republic Era,The Acolyte, will presumably remain canceled, but there are other ways the stories from the show could continue. The Acolytewas perhaps the single most controversial addition toStar Warsmovies and TV showsof all time, rivaling even the sequel trilogy.

Thebacklash toThe Acolytewas varied, with some valid complaints and others seemingly stemming solely from a negative, even hateful point-of-view. Presumably, this backlash heavily influenced Lucasfilm’s decisionnot to renewThe Acolytefor season 2. Even with the show’s cancelation, though, there are ways these stories can still be continued.

The Acolyte Could Continue In A Series Of Novels

There Are Already Some Similar Examples Being Released

WhileThe Acolytemay not continue on screen, at least in a second season, the stories of the characters from the show could continue in other formats, such as with a series of novels. In fact, we already have some examples of such novels, including the new bookStar Wars: The Acolyte: Wayseeker, written by Justina Ireland.

That book was released just a few months ago and focuses on Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh, who was a key figure inThe Acolyte, specifically inThe Acolyteending, which saw Vern covering up all that had transpired with the Jedi. Notably,Wayseekeris set 20 years beforeThe Acolyte, so it is not a sequel.

In addition to that book, there is an upcomingStar Warsbook focused on Jedi Padawan Jecki Lon and Jedi Yord Fandar, both of whom were major characters inThe Acolyte.Star Wars: The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown, written by Tess Gratton, will be released in just a few days and feature a mission Yord and Jecki go on together.

Given Jecki and Yord both sadly died inThe Acolyte, this too will be a prequel story toThe Acolyte, during which Yord is still a Padawan (rather than a full-fledged Jedi, as he is in the show). However, there is also an opportunity for stories afterThe Acolyteto be explored inStar Warsnovels or other books.

Star Wars Comics Often Pick Up Loose Threads

This Would Likely Be Particularly Welcome With Qimir/The Stranger

Along with the possibility of a series ofAcolytenovels set after the show,Star Warscould continue the stories fromThe Acolytein comic books. The franchise has already shown how this can be done, not only with characters fromThe Acolytebut also with other characters from the movies and shows as well.

For example, Master Kelnacca, one of the Jedi murdered by Mae inThe Acolyte, was given a story in the comic bookStar Wars: The Acolyte: Kelnacca #1, written by Cavan Scott. Again, as Kelnacca died inThe Acolyte, this is a prequel rather than a sequel, the latter of which would offer a true continuation of the show’s stories.

As another example that is not connected toThe Acolyte, followingSolo: A Star Wars Story,Qi’ra’s story was continued inStar Warscomics. In fact, this is a particularly useful example, as it reveals what happened to Qi’ra afterSolo. This is precisely what is missing in the novels and comics aboutThe Acolyte’scharacters.

WereStar Warsto explore the stories inThe Acolytelater on intheStar Warstimeline,it’s likely that Qimir/the Stranger’s story would be the most popular option. AlthoughThe Acolytewas highly criticized, audiences generally celebrated Qimir/the Stranger and Manny Jacinto’s performance in the role.

It would be particularly interesting to see where Qimir’s story goes next, as the finale ofThe Acolyterevealed that he had taken Osha on as his apprentice. With Qimir being a Sith, clearly plenty takes place betweenThe Acolyte’sending andStar Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

Seeing Qimir train Osha and inevitably meet some demise (given Palpatine is the Sith Master in the prequels) would be truly thrilling, and it would offer audiences a closer look at the dark side and the Sith. This continues to feel like an underexplored area on theStar Warsscreen–which actually opens up an equally if not more exciting possibility.

Could We Get A Darth Plagueis TV Show?

A Plagueis Show Would Almost Certainly Be A Celebrated Move For Star Wars To Make

Perhaps one of the single most exciting moments inThe Acolytewas the Darth Plagueis cameo in the show’s finale. Although Darth Plagueis' story has only minimally been explored inStar Warscanon—after it was quite extensive inStar WarsLegends—he remains a character many viewers want to see more of.

Even his brief cameo inThe Acolyteproved that a focus on Darth Plagueis would be brilliant, as he was terrifying in the show. This has led some to wonder whetherStar Warscould release a Darth Plagueis TV show. While this wouldn’t necessarily need to be anAcolyte’sequel,' it is a logical next step after the show.

There really has been so little done with the Sith on-screen, and exploring Darth Plagueis' story in a TV show feels like the perfect way to resolve that. Whether that will happen remains to be seen, but it’s one of the most exciting waysStar Warscould continue the stories fromThe Acolyteeven without season 2.
