Abbott Elementaryseason 5 gets an exciting update from star Chris Perfetti. After a truly game-changing twist near the end ofAbbott Elementaryseason 4, in which Principal Ava Coleman (Janelle James) was let go from her job, the hit ABC sitcom concluded its fourth installment on a much more upbeat note. Although the teachers and staff of Willard R. Abbott Elementary School had to say goodbye to some students whom they’ve grown especially fond of, there was also excitement in seeing those students move on to the next chapter in their lives.

In an interview withScreenRant’s Rachel Foertsch, Perfetti was asked about whenAbbott Elementaryseason 5 might start production. The actor, who plays Jacob Hill in the four-time Emmy-winning series, notes thatthe show is about a month away from starting. In the quote below, Perfetti also strikes an optimistic note about what to expect from season 5 after seeing creator and star Quinta Brunson:

Jacob Hill (Chris Perfetti), Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson), and Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Ann Walter) in Abbott Elementary season 4, episode 21.

Chris Perfetti:Yeah, we’re about a month out. We’re about to start our table reads, which I’m so excited for. Like I said, last year, I think we had read the first seven scripts, and I truly thought they were the seven best episodes that we had ever done. I just saw Quinta, and she’s a brilliant actor, but she doesn’t hide things super well, and I can tell that she’s happy about what they’ve done so far for season 5. In about a month, we’re about to start all of that. Like I said, having 22 [episodes], it really lets us line up with the school year, and if we just get a couple more crossovers, we can take care of the summer months as well. So yeah, we’re about a month out from starting.

What This Means For Abbott Elementary Season 5

There Will Be Hints Of Where The Show Is Going Next

Abbott Elementaryseason 5begins with a somewhat blank slate, having said goodbye to many of the students that viewers have grown fond of in recent episodes. That includes R.J. (played by Logan Carter), the quiet student who found his voice as Jacob began to bond with him throughout season 4. There are questions about whether some of those fan-favorite students may still appear for an episode or two, considering how well they’ve established themselves as part of the show’s ensemble.

There are also questions about the rest oftheAbbott Elementarycast, which includes Brunson, Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and William Stanford Davis. Even though the relationship between Brunson’s Janine Teagues and Gregory Eddie (Williams) is on solid ground, someone like Jacob is still very much figuring out his next steps romantically. The start of production should begin to illuminate where the next season is headed.
