iZombie Is A Fun Procedural With A Great Main Character
The CW’siZombieis very different from the comic book, and those who were waiting for a more accurate adaptation were probably disappointed when it turned out to be a case-of-the-week detective show. That being said,iZombieis one of the rarepolice proceduralswhere each episode feels unique and fresh enough.
Liv working at the morgue and helping the police solve cases by using her zombie powers is something that was not in the source material, but it worked for the series. Granted, plenty of other shows have used the “detective with special powers” gimmick, but the wayiZombiedoes it is just incredibly engaging.
Every time Liv eats a brain, she absorbs not only the deceased person’s memories but also their personality. In other words,Liv would become a different person every episodeas she tried to find out how the victim was killed. This was the perfect setup for a procedural in which there is never a dull episode.
Later seasons ofiZombiemoved away slightly from the case-of-the-week formula, especially as more people learned about the virus. ButiZombienever lost its essence, and Liv continued to be the heart of the series.

This surely was a fascinating acting opportunity for McIver, who got to play countless versions of the same character across five seasons. Unlike a lot of other crime shows where every episode is virtually the same,iZombienever became boring. The show also knew when to be scary and lean into horror, offering the full experience for fans of zombie stories.
