America’s Got Talentis back for another season, but host Terry Crews has opened up about whether he wants to replace one of the judges. Longtime judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara and Howie Mandel are in their usual seats forAmerica’s Got Talentseason 20, butreplacing Heidi Klum is Mel B, who was a judge for six seasons from 2013 to 2018.There have been various shakeups at the judging table over the years; in fact, none of the current judges were onAGTwhen it started.

While speaking withPeople,Terry completely rejected the idea of becoming anAmerica’s Got Talentjudge someday. “That’s not my thing. I am 100% the bodyguard of talent because when I look at all the people that come through here, they just remind me of me,” he admitted. The athlete-turned-entertainer is perfectly happy with his current role as the host, and he sees himself as the “counselor” to the contestants. “I give them all the good advice when they come off,” he explained. “If it didn’t go well, I console them. So I love that.”
Even though he doesn’t see himself becoming anAGTjudge,he has an idea of who should join the panel someday: none other than comedy icon Chris Rock. “I think Chris Rock would be a great judge. He knows funny, but he knows entertainment,” Terry said.

While the judges have a lot of fun, especially during the auditions, they are the ones who ultimately have to make the tough decisions about whether to keep or get rid of the acts before control is turned over to the viewers. Whether it’sAGT,American IdolorThe Voice, fans regularly see the judges and coaches express how torn they are over making certain decisions and sometimes build up a lot of stress over the whole situation.
Terry, however, doesn’t have to worry about any of that. He does have the same Golden Buzzer power as the judges, but at least that power is a completely positive action instead of something negative like saying no to anAmerica’s Got Talentcontestant. From that perspective,the hosting gig is the perfect job onAmerica’s Got Talent.

Terry provided a great suggestion for a futureAGTjudge. Chris is a comedy legend, andit would be a huge deal if he ever joined the talent competition series. It seems unlikely producers would have two comedians on the panel at the same time, so he would likely replace Howie instead of Simon, Sofia or Mel B.
Simon will probably stick around as a judge for as long as he wants, considering he’s an executive producer. The judging panel is set for now, and Terry loves the role he has. So until any changes happen in the future, fans will have to tune in to see how Terry and the judges react to all the crazy auditions.
