For the last few years,Apex Legendshas comfortably sat alongsideFortniteandWarzoneat the top of the battle royale genre; taking the tight gunplay of theTitanfallseries and injecting it with some exciting abilities and even more competitive modes. However, the game isn’t perfect, and even the most die-hard fans are able to point out a few areas of weakness in theApex Legendsformula. One such weakness, according to a pretty vocal section of fans, is the lack of any demotion in the game’s ranked matches.
For a while now, some fans have wanted Respawn to add a mechanic where players are demoted from one tier to a lower one if they continue to lose matches. Some fans believe this would help ensureApex Legends' Ranked mode is kept fair and enjoyable, as players will be consistently matched with opponents of a similar skill level. Well, these fans are about to get their wish, as Respawn has confirmed that Ranked demotions are heading toApex Legendsin its Season 13 update, Saviors.

How Apex Legends Ranked Tiers Work
When a player starts up their first match ofApex Legends' Ranked mode, they’ll be sorted into the Bronze tier. From here, the player can ascend the game’s tiers by winning matches, getting kills, and accruing more RP. Once a player reaches a certain threshold of RP, they’ll move into the next tier.
Apex Legendshas seven tiers in total: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, and Apex Predator. The first five of these tiers have four divisions each, which players will need to ascend before moving into the next tier. For example, players will need to move from Bronze IV, to III, to II, to I, before moving onto Silver IV.
TheApex Predator rankis only obtainable by the top 750 players in the Master rank. Once a player has reached a certain tier, they can drop into a lower division if they lose RP, but can never drop into a lower tier. Season 13 is going to change this.
How Apex Legends Season 13’s Ranked Demotions Will Work
Beginning withSeason 13,Apex Legends:Saviors, Ranked players will now be able to drop into lower tiers if they lose enough RP. Players will now be given 100 RP when they move into a new tier. If that RP falls to zero (if players fail to end the match in the top 13 or get any kills) then the player will have three more losses before they are demoted to the previous tier.
Receiving a tier demotion will put the player halfway through the previous division. For example, if a player receives a demotion at Gold IV, they’ll be set back to Silver I, at the halfway mark. A few more tweaks and changes to Ranked mode are also coming in this update.
The RP required to ascend each division has now been raised by 200 RP per tier, meaning that theGold tier’s entry levelhas been raised from 2800 RP to 3000. The entry costs of each division have also been raised, starting with 15 RP for Bronze IV, and increasing by 3 RP per division, until eventually maxing out at 75 RP to enter the Apex Predator tier.
A new Rookie tier has been added toApex Legends.This tier will only be available to those just starting out inApex’s Ranked mode, and once the player has achieved enough RP to move into Bronze IV, they’ll never be able to return to the Rookie tier, or be demoted into it.
