Magnetohas one of the most complicated family dynamics in Marvel lore; in particular, the Master of Magnetism has an especially complex relationship with his daughter, Polaris. Fans of the father/daughter duo and their unique bond may have something to look forward to, if Marvel Senior Editor Tom Brevoort has anything to say about it.

In aninterview with AIPT, Brevoort, hinted that he’d love to dive further into Magneto’s complicated family. Specifically, there’s a growing interest in seeing Max with his fellow magnetic mutant daughter, Lorna Dane.

Other than a brief reunion following his resurrection,Magneto and Polarishave gone their separate ways, but any reunification is sure to be interesting, whether they’re working together or in opposition to each other.

Magneto’s Relationship With His Daughter Polaris Deserves A Bigger Spotlight

Marvel Editor Tom Breevort Agrees

There is no shortage of family drama throughout the Marvel Universe, and certainly not among the X-Men, but Max and Lorna have certainly gone through more than their fair share of bumps in the road. After the shocking revelation that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were not his biological children, Polaris became Magneto’s only real surviving heir.

Polaris has always shared a bond with her father, thanks to inherting his mutant power, the ability to manipulate magnetism, and through the times they have gone through hell and back at each other’s side, especially as Magneto has become a stalwart hero. It’s past time for Marvel to revisit their relationship, and Tom Brevoort agrees, stating:

A couple of fans have been asking me to do more Polaris-Magneto interactions, and I think there’s definitely a rich vein of stuff there to tap into. So at some point, I’d like to have stories that play on that and develop that a little more. We haven’t gotten to it yet, but it’s a seed in the back of my head.

It has been decades since Magneto first discovered Polaris was his daughter. In the intervening years, they’ve had periods of being involved in each other’s lives, which often include some type of tragedy. However, in recent years, their relationship has been downplayed, to both of their detriment, as highlighted by their dramatic highpoints.

One of their most poignant moments came after the Genoshan Massacre, when Max was presumed dead. Quicksilver and his search and rescue crew found Lorna half out of her mind with grief and trauma, and she couldn’t be calmed until she was able to use her magnetism to broadcast her father’s last tragic message to the world.

Magneto’s Family Storyline Deserves To Be On Screen

On Krakoa, Max made what is probably his biggest attempt at being a father to Lorna. He urged her to take on a bigger leadership role with the X-Factor Investigations team, and while she refused, it was clear that they shared a mutual respect and valued their time together. That was further cemented by their emotional reunionafter Magneto’s resurrection.

Exploring Magneto’s relationship with his daughter in the comics would be the ideal gateway to featuring them both on the big screen.

With the X-Men franchise firmly in its new era, there’s so much to explore between the two of them, and it’s refreshing to know that at least one person at Marvel knows it. AlthoughBrevoort gave nothing away in terms of what Magneto and Polaris might get up to in any future stories, there are plenty of possibilities.

Magneto is currentlya major part of Cyclops' X-Men team, and Cyke’s tumultuous relationship with Havok, who shares a layered history with Polaris, is an obvious bridge to bring father and daughter back together. Beyond that, it would be a thrill to see the two of them have an adventure that’s completely their own.

Further, it’s virtually guaranteed that the X-Men will make their way into the MCU with new stories sometime soon. ExploringMagneto’srelationship with his daughter in the comics would be the ideal gateway to featuring them both on the big screen, and that’s an idea that plenty of fans could rally behind if it’s done well.
