The Attorney General of Louisiana, Liz Murrill, has filed a child protection lawsuit againstRoblox, the popular game and creation tool, over concerns about child safety. The lawsuit has been filed in the 21st Judicial District of Louisiana, and alleges thatRobloxis the"#1 gaming site for children and teens"and the service has failed to protect children and could enable illegal actions against minors.

In a statement fromMurrill’s office, thelawsuitclaims to show thatRobloxhascontributed to and facilitated the distribution of child sexual abuse material, knowingly ignored basic safety controls, and failed to provide notice to parents and children about the dangers of using the service. For these reasons, and additional ones, the state of Louisiana is seeking legal action againstRoblox.

Allegations Of Endangering Children
Robloxis one of the most popular games ever made, evenbreakingFortniterecordsat various points, which the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office also acknowledges, claimingthere are nearly 82 million daily active users and more than 6.4 million experienceswithin theRobloxdatabase. Based on those numbers, it is alleged that only 44 percent of the users are 17 years old or older.
With the game dominated by minors, the lawsuit alleges that there aren’t satisfactory safety protocols in place, with the statement reading:“Due to Roblox’s lack of safety protocols, it endangers the safety of the children of Louisiana. Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety.“The statement also alleges thatRobloxencourages real-time communication.
Robloxrequires an account registration and ID process to access certain features, like game chat, if players are above the age of 17. The process requires both a self-taken photo and a government-issued ID, like a driver’s license. If users appear to be 13 or younger, they cannot verify their ages. This change went into effect earlier this year.
According to the lawsuit statement, that isn’t secure enough, with it reading:“there is no age minimum and requirement to verify age or parental permission once you sign-up, users can easily say they are younger or older than their actual age - allowing child predators to pose as children and for children to bypass any age requirement.“Louisiana is seeking the following for permanent injunctive relief and prohibitions:

Robloxhas had a lot ofcontroversies over the years, and this isfar from the first lawsuit that is claiming child endangerment. The lawsuit statement claims the game’s content is often not age-appropriate for children, citing Escape to Epstein Island, Diddy Party, and Public Bathroom Simulator Vibe as examples ofRobloxcontent that children may have access to.
In October 2024,Hindenburg Researchreported that a group of 3,334 members openly traded child pornography and solicited sexual acts from minors, which is referenced in the statement from the Louisiana DA Office. The office also references a recent case in which Livingston Parish, LA, law enforcement arrested a male suspect who was playingRobloxand using an AI-generated voice to mimic a young female voice to allegedly lure children.
