WhileBattlefield 2042had numerous issues that prevented veterans and newcomers alike from getting into it,Battlefield 6is already shaping up to be a significantly more interesting release by the time it arrives on October 10. The explosive trailer did a lot of heavy lifting, and all the leaked details sound good on paper.
Thankfully, a fan-favorite map is coming back in the new entry, but Battlefield Studios seemingly isn’t resting on its laurels.Eight other maps are confirmed for multiplayer for launch, and they don’t overly rely on nostalgia to get the job done.
Operation Firestorm Is Coming Back To Battlefield 6
It Was Originally In Battlefield 3
Operation Firestorm debuted inBattlefield 3, and is set in Iran. Operation Firestorm is a large map; you’ll be able to commandeer vehicles, but there are plenty of indoor firefights to be had within its oil field theme. It’s an intriguing map for multiple reasons, including the eerie feeling of fighting through the empty offices.
Originally released in 2011 alongsideBattlefield 3, Operation Firestorm has remained in the community’s collective mind for over a decade, and even made an appearance in theBattlefield 4: Second AssaultDLC pack. Given EA’s penchant for DLC,it’s entirely possible that we’ll see more classic maps enter the frayafter launch.
EA confirmed to ScreenRant thatBattlefield 6is a “spiritual successor toBattlefield 3and4,” which definitelycontextualizes the return of Operation Firestorm. Let’s hope that this gambit of stoking the flames of nostalgia pays off.

LikeCall of Duty,Battlefield 6will offer multiple modes and gameplay options, which should ideally enhance its longevity. I’m looking forward totesting these out in the beta.
Here’s a quick overview of the modes via EA:“Fan favorite multiplayer modes return in Battlefield 6, with classic staples making an appearance, including Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush. Players will also experience a host of fast-paced and intense first-person shooter staples, including Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination and King of the Hill. While a brand new mode called Escalation sees two teams fight to capture strategic control points.”
Battlefield 6is shaping up a lot nicer than Battlefield 2042 so far, and could be a great return to form for the series.We’ll see on October 10(and the open beta) just how far they’ve come since the last entry, which was released all the way back in 2021. It’ll be wild to seeCall of DutyandBattlefieldduke it out once again.
