Below Deck Down Under’s slew of new crew continued on the April 14 episode with the addition ofNicolas Cattelan as a replacement for deckhand Johnny Arvanitis, who was sacked after physically punching a wall during a drunken incident involving Alesia Harris and Wihan du Toit.Wihan was also let goin the same episode, soCaptain Jason Chambers laid down the law. Nicolas arrived as a fresh-faced deckhand who only had six months of yachting experience, but Captain Jason felt that new bosun Nate Salmon’s seven years of yachting experience would even out the deck crew.
Nicolas made quite a name for himself on his first episode, seen bumbling around trying to manage tow lines, trash bags, and even his own shirt, but seeing as how this is only his second charter,we’ll give Nicolasthe benefit of the doubt that he’s still earning his sea legs. Nicolas may have made a fatal error, however, towards the end of his first episode, committing one of the biggest sins a yachtie can commit. We’ll have to see whether Captain Jason sees fit to make more changes to the Katina crew.

Nicolas is 24 years old and hails from Toulouse, France, and Cape Town, South Africa. His accent is a little confusing, as it sounds more on the British side. He explained that his mother is half-English and half-Chinese, so he picked up her accent. Seeing as this is only his second charter,Nicolas knows he’s green but wants to learn as much as he can.
Nicolas was born on Jun 06, 2025, making him a Libra. Libras are known for being peacemakers, so Nic will be very valuable aboard Katina, which has seen its fair share of drama this season. Hopefully, Nicolas’s calming Libra presence will be useful.

Nicolas didn’t provide a lot of background in his previous jobsafter joining as Johnny’s replacementon the deck team. He has some modeling experience, which is somewhat surprising, since he said he wasn’t popular as a teenager.
Nicolas described himself as a nerd, someone who wasn’t very popular in high school. He still gets intimidated by all of the pretty women on the boat, including the charter guests, saying, “They remind me a lot of the girls who didn’t want to talk to me in high school.” Nicolas said he was into science and movies, not the sort of thing that makes one popular necessarily.
“Being here makes me feel like I’m part of the Starship Enterprise crew. I feel like I’m discovering strange new worlds and new cultures and planets and boldly going where no one has gone before.”
Nicolas might be in a little over his head, but like Captain Jason said, working on Katina is a learning experience for the younger crew and a good opportunity to learn from the more experienced yachties. In an interview withBravo, when asked about his wildest charter guest story from his career, he replied, “I had to drive my boss around the entire Monaco Grand Prix track with a sinking tender,” so at least he sounds like he’s calm under pressure.

Audiences were getting to know Nicolas, but he had already made what could be a fatal error on board Katina. Everyone knows the crew can’t drink on charter. I’ve never worked on a boat, and even I know that. It’s a major no-no and grounds for termination. Nicolas is green, butis he green enough not to know that major rule?
While the guests were playing beer pong, Nicolas gamely helped them by running after ping-pong balls and standing around sheepishly, clearly intimidated by how many beautiful women were on board. He wanted to fit in, but he did feel very awkward, which he admitted in a confessional, saying, “God, I am so awkward.”
After a guest says that if she makes the ball into the cup, Nicolas has to take a shot, I assumed Nicolas would playfully decline. He didn’t.He took a shot as Stew Brianna Duffield looked on in shock.She took him aside and told him he couldn’t drink on charter, and Nicolas seemed confused. He did, however, tell Bri that he would tell Captain Jason himself, so he at least avoided an awkward position for her to be in.
Previews for the nextBelow Deck Down Underepisode show Captain Jason having words with Nicolas, even saying, “You’ve left me with no choice,” so whether or not Captain Jason decides to fire Nicolas is anyone’s guess. Knowing Jason, he will lay down the hammer to ensure that the charter season is successful. He’s not afraid to make cuts, and Nicolas should be on high alert.
