Summary
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is a bigger game than its two predecessors, which is saying a lot. Still, it’s not an epic hundred-plus-hour game likePersona 5, and dedicated players can easily beat the core experience over a long weekend and tackle the additional content in about a week. That’s not a bad thing, but it could leave some players wanting more.
For those wishing to take on something similar after beatingMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, these following games are great choices. The recommendations follow a pattern from offering more superhero games to experiences with multiple protagonists to just open-world adventures with breathtaking traversal abilities. There is something here for everyone. Let’s highlight some greatgames likeMarvel’s Spider-Man 2.
OtherSpider-Mangames will not be included since they are too obvious. Also, Rocksteady’sBatman Arkhamtrilogy will be omitted since they do not need to be recommended.
Updated on Jul 13, 2025 by Mark Sammut:Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is now available on PC, opening Insomniac’s game to a whole new ecosystem. The open-world superhero game should keep players busy for a while; however, they might also just want something similar to play after they are done. Consequently, this article has been expanded.
Saints Rowstarted as a comedic but still relatively realisticGTA-style game. By the fourth main entry, the series had shifted into pure OP territory, withSaints Row 4granting players superpowers that allow them to sprint like The Flash, jump like The Hulk, punch like a relatively weak Superman, and equip a wide range of hilarious guns like Deadpool.
For some fans, the 2013 sequel marked the point of no return for the IP, moving so far away from its origins that it became unrecognizable. For others, this game’s over-the-top nature is its selling point. Similar toMarvel’s Spider-Man 2,Saints Row 4mostly lets players run havoc across a pretty large sandbox, although unleashing chaos is certainly more of a selling point in Volition’s project.
After the disappointment that wasMarvel’s Avengers, no one expectedMarvel’sGuardians of the Galaxyto be a worthwhile superhero game. So, fans were pleasantly surprised to see just how well-written and engaging this game is.
Some players would go so far as to say that this is the best use of theGuardians of the GalaxyIP across any entertainment medium, which is huge praise considering the success of James Gunn’s MCU trilogy. While initial sales for the game were slow,Marvel’sGuardians of the Galaxyenjoyed enough word-of-mouth to see high sales over the course of its lifespan.
It’s easy to see whyHogwarts Legacyis 2023’s highest-selling video game, breaking the stranglehold thatCall of Dutyhad over this annual achievement. TheHarry PotterIP is as valuable as they come, and it helps that this game lets players enjoy the fantasy of being a fun magical adventure set in the magical Wizarding World.
The amount of detail put in to Hogwarts and the Scottish Highlands is impressive, even if the open-world checklist can be rather uninspiring at times. Still, the game’s excellent combat and adherence to the source material make it worth checking out for any fan of fun open-world games, and especially for fans ofHarry Potter.
Sunset Overdriveis the game that proved to Sony that Insomniac was the perfect studio to handle theSpider-ManIP. The game’s incessant charm and fun traversal still hold up to this day, and they are blatant precursors to what would eventually becomeSpider-Man’smechanics.
Players who want to check out what Insomniac was up to before becoming a PlayStation darling will loveSunset Overdrive. It’s a wild joyride that never lets up, combining fun traversal, wild combat, and a brightly-colored world to great effect.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Orderis the final obvious superhero plug on the list. It’s a Switch exclusive, but a lot of PlayStation fans probably have multiple consoles anyway. Players start with a small handful of Marvel heroes, but the roster expands quickly from theslash-happy Wolverineto the sophisticated monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone.
It’s a great game to play with three other friends in a multiplayer session like the good old days of couch co-op. It’s a short adventure but one that is infinitely replayable due to the large volume of characters.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicatewas the first game in the series to offer dual protagonists. The game took placeduring the Industrial Revolutionphase of England’s history. Siblings Jacob and Evie Frye were recruited into the Brotherhood to help stop the revolution from being spoiled by the Templars.
The dual protagonist angle would appeal toMarvel’s Spider-Man 2fans but so would the gadgets. For example, there was a grappling hook that helped the siblings get around rooftops faster.
Another game based on a very popular IP,Attack On Titan 2: The Final Battlemight not seem like the most obvious recommendation at a glance, largely due to the campaign(s) being structured around missions rather than set in an open-world. However, similar to Insomniac’s project, theAOTgames nail their movement, allowing players to zip around fairly large maps using the ODM gear. This aspect is arguably the best part of these releases (there are three games), and it is satisfying, responsive, and just plain old fun.
Attack On Titan 2: The Final Battleis the best entry to buy as it includes the base game (Attack On Titan 2) and the subtitled DLC, which combine to cover the first three seasons of the anime and an ending. While fairly repetitive, the core gameplay loop is a lot of fun, and the story is great and just about understandable for non-fans.
Gotham Knightsgave players the choice to play as one ofBatman’s four apprentices. There was Nightwing, Robin (the Tim Drake version), Batgirl, and Red Hood. Starting as one changed how the story played out as that character took the lead in conversations.
Once HQ was unlocked, players could swap characters and the nice thing was that players could level up all four characters simultaneously. Doing so would create a disjointed story, but the option was there. None of the characters in the game can match the speed of Peter or Miles inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, but traversal is still satisfying inGotham Knights.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewarrants a brief mention, just because its movement system is fun.
3InFamous Second Son
An Excellent Superhero Game With Fun Powers And Traversal Mechanics
inFamous Second Sonis the last game in the series which launched a few months after the PS4 debuted. It starred a new protagonist, Delsin, who had a different set of powers than Cole from the first two games. Delsin could absorb powers from other gifted individuals.
Players began with the power of smoke which came with an abundance of fire. It was agood superhero gamewith a sprawling city full of side objectives. PlayStation fans probably already tackled this years ago, but it still deserves a place on the list.
Just Cause 4is the type of game that should appeal to fans of the angsty version of Peter Parker. While the protagonist of the game, Rico, is not evil, he also doesn’t care about those who get in his way. This series overall can best be described asopen-world chaos simulators.
Players can drive a gas-filled truck into another, jump out, grapple onto a tree to get away from the explosion, and then glide off into the sunset. It should be a refreshing change of pace from all the do-goodery inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Just Cause 4was highlighted due to being the most recent entry in the franchise; that said,Just Cause 2and3are generally regarded as the superior games.
