The Big Bang Theory’s latest spinoff casts three more, bringing back two actors from the original series. TheupcomingStuart Fails to Save the Universeis the third spinoff in the overallBig Bang Theoryuniverse, set to debut on HBO Max, with several cast members reprising their roles.
Coming after the success of spinoffsYoung SheldonandGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, the HBO Max comedy will be led by Kevin Sussman as the titular Stuart Bloom. Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie will also step into their former roles. They’ll respectively play Denise, Bert, and Barry Kripke.
Deadlinereports that Ryan Cartwright, Josh Brener, and Tommy Walker have been added toStuart Fails to Save the Universein major recurring roles. ie, Cartwright and Brener previously appeared in the originalBig Bang Theoryseries. Cartwright portrayed a British classmate of Penny’s in season 6 who made Leonard jealous. Brener appeared in two episodes as Dale, a friend and co-worker of Stuart.
They’ll all be playing new characters for the spinoff. Cartwright has the role of Kyle, a comic book nerd and a daily visitor to Stuart’s comic book store. Walker, meanwhile, will play Denise’s new boyfriend, Gary. Completing the trio, Brener plays Trevor.

It centers on Stuart Bloom, as the comic book store owner is tasked with restoring reality after he breaks a device built by Sheldon and Leonard and accidentally sets off a multiverse Armageddon. Lorre has teased that this premise will allow former main cast members to reprise their roles. But this latest update confirms the spinoff will include deep cuts to minor characters, as well.

Lorre has always maintained that if he didanotherBig Bang Theoryspinoff, then it would have to be different. If nothing else,Stuart Fails to Save the Universeseems like a genuine attempt to do something different and maybe even a little creatively risky with the reliable franchise. Though the upcoming comedy doesn’t have a release date yet, it’ll be worth watching.
