Big Brotherhas been on the air for 27 seasons, andannoying behavior from the houseguests during the live evictions has ruined the experience. So far,Big Brotherseason 27has had three live evictions, which led to the end of Zae Frederich, Amy Binghman, and Adrian Rocha’s games after they competed in and lost the BB Blockbuster competition.
In aBig BrotherReddit thread, userMaytatorcomplained thatthe live evictions"are becoming genuinely unwatchable"due to the houseguests' shoutouts to their families and friends after they cast their votes. They wrote,“Look, I’ve been watching BB since season 13. I love this show and will watch every eviction live.”

They continued,“The last 6-8 seasons, though, and ESPECIALLY this season, evictions are getting harder and harder to watchbecause I simply cannot stand the ‘himomhidadhappybirthdaysusiehappyanniversaryjohnnyilovemyfamilyandfriendsletsgododgers!!’ shout out that Every. Single. Person. Feels the need to give.”
The fan then praisedBig Brotherproduction for turning off the houseguests' microphones, writing,“It’s sooo annoying and ruins the flow of the episode. And look, I get it, you’re completely cut off from the outside world and this is your one second to say something, but god**** you can’t even really say anything of substance in that time. Just stuffed in there, cutting [host] Julie [Chen Moonves] off. I am loving production muting their mics when they’re talking too long, though.”

One fan admitted that the shoutouts don’t bother them, saying,“Meh, I think you’ve got to put yourself in their place…between the live vote and when that door opens, they have zero outside access that guarantees their messages get to the people they care about. It’s just not that big a deal.”
However, another noted that the houseguests can talk to their families on the live feeds, stating,“It’s crazy to me because there are 6 other days in the week that your loved ones can watch you in feeds and you can talk to them.”

A different viewer pointed out how much they dislike how the houseguests behave in the hallwaybefore they enter the Diary Room. They wrote,“Add to that, the stupid dances, handshakes and twerks in the hallway.“Someone else agreed, stating,“I get so much second-hand embarrassment from those.”
Another fan lashed out at how the houseguests shower Julie with complimentswhen they enter the Diary Room to vote. They wrote,“The pandering to Julie is 10x worse. That needs to stop.”
Two other fans mocked what they feel are the fake exchanges between Julie and every houseguest, writing,“HI JULIEEEEEEEEEE! YOU LOOK STUNNING TONIGHT! All so annoying. Has to stop.“The second viewer added,“Then she feels like she has to return the compliment. It’s all so contrived.”
Someone else revealed that they don’t even watch the vote anymore, writing,“I hate it so much I fast forward until the eviction result is announced. If it’s not unanimous I look on Wikipedia to see how everyone voted. I don’t need to hear shoutouts and telling Julie how ravishing she looks for the millionth time.”
Another viewer offered a solution to the shoutout problem, writing, “My thought on shoutouts - Ban them from happening during live stuff. However- allow everyone to record something in Diary Room - give them 3-5 seconds that airs at the commercial break outro/intro. Give them a dedicated spot that can actually be heard, and stop taking away from evictions.”
One viewer summed the problem up, simply stating,“They need to stop shoutouts.”
What Backlash To Houseguests’ Shoutouts Means For Big Brother
Big Brother Live Eviction Episodes Are Hard To Watch Because Of The Vote
With 17Big Brother 27housegueststo start, the live votes have taken up an extraordinary amount of time in the eviction episodes. Fourteen people had to vote during week 1, and their shoutouts only prolonged the agony of having to watch all of them enter the Diary Room.
If viewers are bored by theBig Brotherlive eviction episodes, then they’ll stop tuning in, especially because there are so many other ways to find out who was evicted. This means thatthe show should probably change its formula to speed up the process.
Big Brotherdid this years ago whenit eliminated the time-consuming key wheel from the nomination ceremony, when houseguests would hand each other their keys one-by-one to signify that they were safe for the week.
Our Take On Houseguests Giving Shoutouts During Evictions
Houseguests Should Only Be Allowed To Vote In Diary Room On Eviction Night
While I understand that theBig Brotherhouseguests are missing their families, and that they have a much wider audience to shout them out in the CBS episode than on the live feeds, I still think thatthey should only be allowed to cast their vote in the Diary Room, and nothing else.
The houseguests also have to stop telling Julie how beautiful she looks because it seems so fake and forced at this point. They seem to be going through the motions of what they think aBig Brotherhouseguest should do–have a funny interaction in the hallway with another houseguest, tell Julie she’s gorgeous, cast their vote, and shout out everyone they love. It’s annoying to watch.
I hope thatBig Brotherbans shoutouts during the live evictionsor at least continues to mute people’s microphones until they get the message. It’s very tedious to watch the vote to begin with, and then all of the extras make it truly intolerable.Big Brotheralways tells us to"expect the unexpected,“but these new traditions are making the show predictable and boring.
Big Brotherseason 27 airs Sundays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and every other Friday at 8 p.m. EDT on CBS.
