Coming from writer Neil Gibson and artist Silvano Beltramo, the new comic will adapt season 4, episode 1’sUSS Callister, starring Jesse Plemons and Cristin Milioti. Running until August 21, theKickstarterreportedly stands at $38,768,already reaching the first stretch goalof a bonus digital copy for all backers.

The comic will feature cover art from Butcher Billy, colors from Agnese Pozza and lettering Rob Jones. The adaptation promises retro art perfectly suited to the twin realities of the stories, with additional ‘loot’ including crew badges, art prints, collector’s cards and even merch bearing backer likenesses in the comic’s art style. The speedy backing shows theintense fan interest in the comic, but how does it compare to similar projects?

Did Black Mirror’s Kickstarter Just Break a Comic Record?

The USS Callister Is Just the First Upcoming Adaptation

Being funded in four hours is impressive, but sadly it’s not a record on the site. In 2023, an adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’sGood Omenswas funded in just 15 minutes, eventually raising $3,000,000 from almost 37,000 backers. In 2024, that record was broken by video game tie-inCult of the Lamb: The First Verse, which was fully funded in just six minutes, receiving $684,389 in total from 9,439 backers. In 2025,The Transformers Compendiumtoppedthatrecord, fully funded at $40,000 in just 2 minutes.

Sadly,Black Mirror: USS Callisterdidn’t achieve a record for the speed of funding, and it’s also unlikely to top the highest-funded comic project, withThe Transformers CompendiumKickstarter raising a staggering $4,000,000. Regardless, being fully funded in just four hours is a huge vote of confidence from fans.

That bodes well for the next planned adaptation,Black Mirror: San Junipero, with other episodes being eyed for adaptations. The comic has promised hidden references to the show’s wider universe, with Silvano Beltramo and Butcher Billy’s art homaging classic"Kirby-esque"sci-fi comics. Fans can still backBlack Mirror: USS Callister’s Kickstarter, with a planned Summer 2025 release for the comic adaptation.
