Warning: SPOILERS for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #21
More than 2 years after Naruto was sealed by Kawaki, which resulted in Shikamaru taking over his functions temporarily,Boruto’s story brought back the importance that his role as Hokage had in Sarada. Sarada has taken the spotlight in the current arc inBoruto: Two Blue Vortexafterawakening her Mangekyo Sharinganin the fight against the Divine Tree Ryu, and in the latest chapter, she reflects on herself and her dreams, which were inspired by Naruto. However, this only highlightedhow differentBoruto’s protagonists are from Naruto, with the manga becoming more brutal than ever.
The good Naruto never hesitates to help others, even his enemies, so despite fighting against the worst villains, he always appeals to their good side and gives them an opportunity for redemption. So it’s only natural that Sarada, who dreamed of becoming a Hokage like Naruto, will show mercy to her enemies in the same way. Yet,Sarada’s recently awakened ability makes her stronger but also a more ruthless ninja than Naruto ever was.

Sarada Didn’t Forgive Her Enemies Like Naruto
Sarada’s Ohirume Is One of the Darker Powers in Boruto
InBoruto: Two Blue Vortexchapter #21,Sarada’s Mangekyo Sharingantechnique is revealed to be called Ohirume, which is another name for the Japanese Sun Goddess Amaterasu. This way, the ability is intrinsically related to the sun, which was hinted at by Sarada’s Mangekyo Sharingan design. Also, itallows Sarada to cast several spheres with the properties of small suns, creating a gravitational force that she can control at will.
In the fight, Sarada could control the gravity around the Divine Tree to pull him into one of the black spheres. But the way it was flaring up and Ryu’s scream of pain signaled thatthe sphere had a high-density energy that emitted rays like the sun and Sarada could keep increasing its output until it exploded, collapsing upon itself and pulverizing the Divine Tree.

This is a torturous way to die, and the way she didn’t even hesitate to use it against Ryu, or try to reason with him, showcasing howSarada won’t be a Hokage like Naruto, as she will use everything in her power if it’s to achieve her goal of protecting everyone, even defeating her opponents in the most horrible way possible.
Sarada Would Be a Different Type of Hokage Than Naruto
The Enemies in Boruto Are More Villainous Than Ever
InBoruto: Two Blue Vortexchapter 21, it is made clear that Naruto’s ideals have influenced Sarada, who believed that she, as Hokage, would treat everyone from Konoha like her family. Yet,Sarada has demonstrated that she is willing to use more drastic measuresto defend those she cares about than Naruto, whose extreme kindness made him always avoid killing others. Even Naruto’s only kill was debated among fans of the series.
However,Boruto’s story has made its villains less empathetic for viewers than those inNaruto, without a relatable motivation or sad backstory that will make viewers root for them somehow. This ties in with Kishimoto’s comment in 2017 about the future ofBoruto, where he revealed the story would become darker after a pivotal moment, which was more likely the activation of Omnipotence that has redefined the series.
I wanted the start of the manga to be happy, but I also wanted to show that there’s a dark turning point in order to grab the reader’s attention— Masashi Kishimoto.
This way, as the story has progressed to a point wherethe Divine Trees are too powerful to keep alive and should be defeated in order to retrieve those whose chakra was harvested, it also gives the series a darker tone, with Boruto and Sarada having to become stronger to defeat them at all costs. Nevertheless, this promises more intense and merciless battles going forward as Boruto starts to close in his battle against the Divine Trees and also how Sarada will by different type of leader than Naruto.
