Debuting on CBS in September 2010,Blue Bloodsbecame one of the most successful shows on the network, and received acclaim for its creative storytelling, gritty realism, and themes of family, corruption, and law enforcement.

After a strong run of 14 seasons,Blue Bloodswas canceled by the network, despite strong ratings. But, with spinoff showBoston Blueentering development, the franchise is set to continue, and Wahlberg will head up the new show. What This Means For Boston Blue

A Selleck Appearance Is Likely

Considering the fact thatBoston Blueis a continuation of theBlue Bloodsstory, and Frank Reagan was such a core part of that story, it seems only right that he should make an appearance in the spinoff. In fact, Selleck himself has expressed an interest in returning in the show, so it seems like it’s pretty inevitable at this stage.

He has a long-standing working relationship with Wahlberg, and the fact that both men seem keen on the reunion happening means that this is likely to play a prominent part in the direction the spinoff will take. It’s unclear whether his role will be a recurring one, or if it might just be a single episode, but it is almost certain Selleck will play some part in the show.

Adding more legacy stars to theBlue Bloodsspinoffwill help bring more viewers to the project and ensure continuity between the shows. There is no indication that talks have occurred with Selleck at present, but getting him on board for the show should be pretty straightforward.

Our Take On A Selleck Boston Blue Appearance

The Show Needs To Stand On Its Own Feet Without Overreliance On Its Predecessor

The fact thatBoston Bluehas gotten the greenlight begs the question of why the show was not simply renewed pastBlue Bloodsseason 14. However, the series is a great opportunity to take the franchise in a brand-new direction, and Boston is a great way to change location, which offers great storytelling ideas.

Selleck would be a fine addition to the show, butBoston Blueneeds to be able to exist as its own show without relying too heavily onBlue Bloods. As such, I think that, while the character of Frank would be a welcome addition, it is important that the show only uses him sparingly.
