The investigation surroundingwho killed Danny inBroadchurchseason 1is one of the most gripping crime narratives in the TV world from recent years.Broadchurchtakes elements from the classic murder mystery structure and breathes new life into them.

Other than just focusing on the police investigation and the loved ones of the victim, the show also delves into the lives of the locals.Everyone has a secret to hide, and even if it doesn’t end up being relevant to the overarching story, it’s always enthralling. While other shows have used this format before,Broadchurchstands out, and this is mainly because of Ellie.
David Tennant And Olivia Colman Both Give Amazing Performances In Broadchurch
Alec And Ellie’s Dynamic Plays A Major Role In Making The Narrative So Engaging
Olivia Colman’s portrayal of Ellie Miller is stellar. Ellie’s son, Tom, is Danny’s best friend, and she has a very close relationship with Beth Latimer, too. The two women essentially raise their boys together, so the season 1 murder investigation holds even more weight for Ellie than any other.
From start to finish, Colman offers an equally hilarious and profound performance. Colman brings a somewhat comical aura to every character she plays, and Ellie is no different. Considering some of Colman’s more powerful scenes inBroadchurch, like when Ellie learns who Danny’s killer is, it’s no surprise she went on to become an Oscar winner.
Tennant’s performance inBroadchurchis also incredibly strong. He’s fantastic as the brooding detective with his own haunting past, and the rapport Alec Hardy builds with Ellie Miller is astounding. Hardy isn’t perfect, but underneath all that shame and frustration, there’s a man who genuinely cares about seeking justice.
Miller and Hardy are by far one ofthe best TV detective duosaround. However, they probably wouldn’t be as popular if not for Tennant and Colman’s back and forth, andit’s strange to imagine a version ofBroadchurchwithout them.
