Cate Blanchett has addressed the future ofSquid Gameand her potential involvement in the upcoming American spinoff after her series finale cameo.Squid Gameseason 3 endedby confirming the games are happening worldwide, with Blanchett making a guest appearance as a recruiter playingddakjiin Los Angeles. This appeared to set up the thriller’s upcoming American spinoff.
Speaking withVariety, Blanchett explained what it was like to portray the American recruiter at the end ofSquid Gameseason 3. She revealed she had to bring her own suit on set, with the secrecy of her cameo not affording her a costume fitting. She wasn’t given much prep time, having to learn how to playddakjirather quickly:

Because it’s such a cult series and they were shooting in L.A. of all places, everyone was on a need-to-know basis. I got a couple of storyboards. I had to [learn to] play the game very quickly. I had to practice and practice. I knew there were four or five setups that they were going to do, and I knew what they needed from every shot, and then I was given the sides. But it was one of the more mysterious jobs.
In addition, she addressed her potential return in the American spinoff that director David Fincher is attached to. Speaking about working with him duringThe Curious Case of Benjamin Button, she said she would be open to collaborating with him again.Check out what Blanchett had to say below:

I am wildly open to anything. And in a world that is so beautifully, magically created like that, for sure. They’re amazing world-builders, and that series has been eaten alive. I don’t think there’s a corner of the globe that it hasn’t touched in some way.
I mean, I’d love to work with David [Fincher] again. It’s been ages. But no, I don’t know anything more than you do. I’m not being coy. I really don’t.

What Blanchett’s Statement Says About Her Future In Squid Game
Nothing is known yet about theSquid GameAmerican spinoff, other than Fincher is attached to the series. Given the end of the original show revealed the US has its own games going on, it seems like the perfect way to pass the baton. However, there’s been no official word yet on how the series will connect to the original.
Blanchett’s statement clarifies that she isn’t officially attached to the spinoff yet, meaning there’s no guarantee her recruiter comes back. This is despite setup for anotherSquid Gamecharacter, the Front Man, to make a return after giving Gi-hun’s daughter the rest of his winnings.
Even though her future in the series is uncertain, Blanchett’s statement about how secretive her cameo was shows how well production was able to keep it under wraps. Having her bring a suit and learnddakjifast meant nobody knew she was going to make an appearance. Perhaps the same will be said for her potential cameo in the spinoff.
Our Take On Blanchett’s Possible Squid Game Future
Without any confirmation from her or Netflix that she’s involved in any futureSquid Gameprojects, there’s no way of knowing if she’ll appear in the American spinoff until more concrete information arrives. The only guarantee for right now is that the series is expanding, though what the next iteration will feature remains to be seen.
Even so, it would be a mistake to waste Blanchett’sSquid Gamecameo. Involving her in the forthcoming spinoff would be the perfect way to tie both stories together, adding consistency to the universe by giving her a bigger role beyond a small cameo. With the next chapter still in development, the fate of her recruiter role remains unknown.
