It’s no surprise thatChappell Roan’s Grammy-winning debut album,The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, has fans hungry forher second LP, but their stomach growls won’t be settled for a while, based on the singer’s recent update, andpeople are highly upset about it.

Roan spoke withVogueabout her sophomore release, which some fans might think she’s been busy crafting in between shows and public appearances, but that hasn’t been the case. That assumption could have to do with the Missouri native releasing the songs “Good Luck, Babe!,” “The Giver,” and"The Subway"since her debut album.

It’s also possible that fans took those songs as a sign that Roan hasn’t stopped writing sinceThe Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, and that she’s eager to appease them with a new album. However, she explained thather creative process can’t be shaped by fans' expectations, so her next LP won’t come for some time.

Chappell Roan Explains Just How Long It’ll Take To Finish Her Sophomore Album

Roan admitted in her interview thatshe hasn’t completed any songs for a new full-length project, and that fans shouldn’t expect her to crank out new material in quick fashion, since that’s far from her writing style. Instead, she explained that ideas, song concepts, and lyrics have to come organically and can’t be contrived.

“The second project doesn’t exist yet,” Roan stated. “There is no album. There is no collection of songs. It took me five years to write the first one, and it’s probably going to take at least five to write the next. I’m not that type of writer that can pump it out. I don’t think I make good music whenever I force myself to do anything.”

The “Hot to Go!” creator then said thatfans often complain about her being everywhere but the studio, but if she were to be there for hours on end, it still wouldn’t speed up her creative process or get her to complete an album any sooner, which a good number of fans raged about.

Roan’s Fans Are Now Even More Disappointed About The Wait

One Instagram user wrote that she loves Roan but can’t believe that it’ll take five years to complete an album’s worth of songs. Plus, another fan wrote that she doesn’t mind waiting five years but wishes the pop star would’ve mentioned that before releasing “Good Luck, Babe!,” “The Giver,” and “The Subway,” assuming they’re part of a new album rollout.

Meanwhile, another person expressed concern about Roan’s star dimming if she waits that long to release a second album, andanother frustrated fan compared her to Rihanna, who hasn’t released an LP since 2016’sAnti. At the opposite end, however, there were plenty of people who defended Roan and stated that they prefer quality to quantity.

It could be said that today’s music scene moves much faster than yesteryear, thanks to technology and the internet making it easier for artists to release albums quickly. However, some fans tend to express dissatisfaction if a release doesn’t meet their standard of quality, whichmakes it hard for artists to satisfy listeners either way.
