Dandadan Episode 15 Review: As High A Note As Possible For A Climax
Dandadan Episode 15 In Review
Episode #15 marks the climax ofDandadanseason 2’s first arc, and there was no better note for that to happen on. Okarun’s fight with the Evil Eye was filled with all the great animation and direction one would expect from the series, and narratively speaking, it did a great job of showcasing his growth as a person and how important Jiji has become to him, as well.
As for Momo, while the focus was mostly on Okarun’s actions, the way Momo dealt with the Mongolian Death Worm once again highlighted her resourcefulness and why Momo is such a great female lead, and it perfectly led into the twist ending that does nothing but set up even higher stakes for the climax.Dandadanepisode #15 does a perfect job of closing outtheDandadanseason 2 theatrical preview, and sure enough, episode #16 was an even better follow-up.

What Happened In Dandadan Episode 16?
Produced By Science Saru; Directed By Hironori Tanaka
InDandadanepisode #16, “That’s, Like, Way Deadly”, as the Kito family recited the legend of the tsuchinoko’s role in stopping the volcano while blaming Momo for everything, Momo came to a startling realization: the legend was supposed to be about using the natural hot springs to stop the volcano, not the Mongolian Death Worm.
To that end, Momo stuck the corpse of the Mongolian Death Worm into the hot spring and began squeezing it like a hose to absorb the lava with thick sludge. The Kito family, now pledging allegiance to the volcano, tried to stop Momo, but she was saved by Manjiro, the priest from episode #13, who was actually Seiko’s apprentice.

Before Manjiro’s fight with the Kitos could drag on too long, though, the Evil Eye reappeared and started attacking everyone, forcing Momo and Manjiro to work with Naki Kito to stop him. Even then, though, the Evil Eye was too strong for them, and they were only saved thanks to the sudden arrival of Seiko, Taro, and Mr. Shrimp.
Seiko and Mr. Shrimp’s combined power was enough to hold off the Evil Eye, but the crux of the plan actually relied on Taro; Seiko put seals all around the inside of Taro’s body, so after disassembling himself, Taro trapped the Evil Eye inside his body and used the power of the seals to pacify him, stopping the Evil Eye once and for all.

With the Evil Eye defeated, Mr. Shrimp’s son, Chiquitita, extinguished the rest of the lava while Momo went back to Jiji’s house to find Okarun. Unfortunately, all that was left of the house was a pool of magma, and Momo was ready to dive right in to save Okarun before Chiquitita pulled a cocoon out of the magma.
Sure enough, Okarun and Turbo Granny were inside the cocoon, as they used the Mongolian Death Worm’s phlegm to protect themselves from the lava. Okarun tried apologizing for not properly handling the Evil Eye, but Momo didn’t care, and on that note,Dandadanepisode #16 ended with Momo hugging Okarun in silence.
Dandadan Delivers The Best Episode Of The Anime, By Far
Dandadan Episode 16 In Review
Overall, there was very little not to love aboutDandadanepisode #16. Episode director Hironori Tanaka directed some of the best scenes ofJujutsu Kaisen,Mob Psycho 100, andDemon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and sure enough, episode #16 was a visual masterpiece, thanks to how far it tookDandadan’s gorgeous animationand creative camera work.
The writing, of course, was also very strong. Not only was the Evil Eye handled with a perfect balance of comedy and cleverness, but it was also done by using a multitude of callbacks to season 1, all of which added an extra level of charm to everything by firmly establishing how connected everything is.
Tying everything together was ending things on another tender moment between Momo and Okarun. As chaotic as things can get,Dandadan, at its core, is a story about the bond Momo and Okarun share, soDandadanepisode #16 ending on a moment between Momo and Okarun was the perfect way to remind people of where the true heart of the story lies.
Dandadanepisode #16 ending on a moment between Momo and Okarun was the perfect way to remind people of where the true heart of the story lies.
Between its stunning visuals and incredible writing,Dandadanepisode #16 is easily the best episode of the entire anime. There’s never been a better sign of how greatDandadanseason 2 will be, and hopefully, episode #17 and beyond will find a way to surpass it, assuming that’s even possible.
Be sure to watchDandadanepisode #17 when it releases on Thursday, July 31.
