Dandadankicked off its next big arc in style with episode #17, and it left plenty to be excited about for episode #18 and beyond. Season 2 has a lot to live up to after such a phenomenal first arc, but so far, it looks like it won’t have an issue doing so, in the slightest.
Following up where episode #17 left off, Seiko failed to exorcise the Evil Eye from Jiji, and its presence led to further complications for Jiji and everyone around him. There’s no telling where things will go with the new arc, but it’s clear that things will be just as chaotic as ever, if not more so.

Dandadan Episode 16 Review: The Best Episode Of The Anime, By Far
Dandadan Episode 16 In Review
Overall, there was very little not to love aboutDandadanepisode #16. Episode director Hironori Tanaka directed some of the best scenes ofJujutsu Kaisen,Mob Psycho 100, andDemon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and sure enough, episode #16 was a visual masterpiece, thanks to how far it tookDandadan’s gorgeous animationand creative camera work.
The writing, of course, was also very strong. Not only wasthe Evil Eyehandled with a perfect balance of comedy and cleverness, but it was also done by using a multitude of callbacks to season 1, all of which added an extra level of charm to everything by firmly establishing how connected everything is.

Tying everything together was ending things on another tender moment between Momo and Okarun. As chaotic as things can get,Dandadan, at its core, is a story about the bond Momo and Okarun share, soDandadanepisode #16 ending on a moment between Momo and Okarun was the perfect way to remind people of where the true heart of the story lies.
Between its stunning visuals and incredible and chaotic writing,Dandadanepisode #16 is easily the best episode of the entire anime. There’s never been a better sign of how greatDandadanseason 2 will be, and sure enough, episode #17 was as perfect a follow-up that a person could hope for.

What Happened In Dandadan Episode 17?
Produced By Science Saru; Directed By Taku Kimura
InDandadanepisode #17, “We Can All Stay There Together!”, the Kitos were arrested for their crimes in the aftermath of the volcanic eruption, although Naki managed to slip away. There, it was revealed that Naki was actually a subterranean who had spent 200 years raising the Mongolian Death Worm, and she vowed to get revenge against Momo one day.
Meanwhile, Seiko couldn’t exorcise the Evil Eye from Jiji, but it was discovered that, surprisingly, splashing him with hot water would give him back control of his body. Unfortunately, cold water would relinquish control back to the Evil Eye, and since it wouldn’t be long before the Evil Eye destroyed Taro’s barriers, they needed to get stronger exorcists.

The next day, everyone went to the hospital to visit Jiji’s parents at the hospital; on the ride over there, Momo and Okarun had a romantic moment where the two playfully held hands, although it was quickly interrupted by Jiji’s nonsense bringing, the mood of the scene back to being nonsensical.
Back at school, Momo asked Okarun and Aira to stay at her place to help keep an eye on Jiji until the exorcists Seiko had hired would arrive. Both of them agreed after a bit of awkwardness, and it was especially notable that Aira agreed, as she was still being ostracized for spreading rumors about Momo being a slut.
Later that night, everyone arrived at Jiji’s home just as the Evil Eye overpowered the last of Taro’s barriers. Jiji now had to be extra careful around water, but unfortunately, it wasn’t long until a drop of soy sauce put the Evil Eye back in control, and the episode ended with him attacking everyone.
Dandadan Kicks Off Its Next Big Arc On A High Note
What Made Dandadan Episode 17 So Great
Dandadan’s latest arc is already off to a great start with episode #17. Visually speaking, while episode #17 was notably light on action, it was still filled with plenty of great and fluid artwork and animation, with some notable standouts being Momo and Okarun’s handholding scene and the return of the Evil Eye in the final scene.
Naturally, the writing was also very strong. Whether it was comedic scenes with the entire group, romantic scenes with Momo and Okarun, or heartfelt scenes like Jiji reuniting with his parents or Momo and Okarun comforting Aira after she lost all her friends, the writing was always on point and a perfect display of what makes the show so great.
The first arc ofDandadanseason 2set the bar incredibly high, but fortunately,Dandadanepisode #17 was a perfect start for the next arc both visually and narratively.Dandadanseason 2 continues to live up to the hype, and hopefully, episode #18 will be no different in that regard.
Be sure to watchDandadanepisode #18 when it releases on Thursday, August 7.
