AlthoughDeath Strandinghas been public knowledge for quite a while, the forthcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive still remains as enigmatic as ever, especially after the release ofthe latest trailer at The Game Awards 2017. Despite this, the project’s creator, Hideo Kojima, has teased plans to announce something next year that will surprise fans, which indicates the possibility of the director revealing a 2018 release date for the game.
As seen in the tweet below from the Twitter user “bk2128”, Hideo Kojima took part in a “Creator Interviews” feature in a recent issue of the Japanese gaming magazine Dengeki PlayStation, where the director first talked about how Sony Interactive Entertainment told him the company had “never seen people working on a fast pace like this.” Following this bit of information, the mind behindDeath Strandingthen teased a “plan to announce something in 2018 that’ll surprise everyone even more.”
Of course, this is far from an official confirmation thatDeath Strandingwill indeed be given a release date set for next year, but considering Kojima’s above statement regarding the speed at which him and his development team are putting the title together, it could be a possibility. After all, the announcement Kojima-san has in store for 2018 is purportedly one that will be a major surprise, and a locked-in launch for 2018 would be a huge bombshell.
All things considered, there’s no telling how close or far awayDeath Strandingis from being completed save for the not-so-public knowledge held by those at Kojima Productions and Sony Interactive Entertainment, so fans will have to remain content speculating on the innumerable mysteries surrounding the game. At least there are plenty of interesting theories out there to entertain, such as the one involvingMetal Gear Solid’s Psycho Mantis playing a rolein the forthcoming title.
