Though it may not have been obvious at first, Bungie has been slowly but certainly filling out its PvP loot pool inDestiny 2’s Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner game modes. It’s been a long and stretched-out process, and one that’s bound to continue for some time yet, but that’s what’s been going on.
Specifically, the latestDestiny 2developer blog has revealed two entirely new Iron Banner weapons that will be coming out as part of the ongoing Season of the Lost. A hand cannon and a sword, these weapons don’t share any geometry with existing models, which is sure to make them more interesting to the player base by default.

WhileDestiny 2will get an Iron Banner overhaulsometime in the future, the Frontier’s Cry hand cannon and the Razor’s Edge sword should be able to reinvigorate the Iron Banner playlist for a little while. The hand cannon is a 180 RPM precision frame weapon, seemingly kinetic, that can roll Steady Hands and Compulsive Reloader Perks, as well as Iron Banner’s own range-boosting Iron Reach. The sword, on the other hand, is a Void vortex frame that rolls perks such as Unrelenting and Wellspring to go with the explosive Chain Reaction.
Design-wise, these clearly belong in the same set of weapons that have been coming out over the past few seasons.Destiny 2Season 15’s pulse rifle and sidearmshare the same aesthetic, as well as the light machine gun and shotgun that had previously come out. It seems possible that Bungie may have had the full set ready a while back, but chose to launch the weapons piecemeal to maintain player interest over a longer period of time.
Some players won’t be thrilled by the fact that there’s no new Iron Banner armor coming anytime soon. Though it lasted a good while longer than regular seasons, Season 15 got the all-new Iron Forerunner armor set, and it’s unlikely that Bungie will be pushing out a new armor set until Season 18-19, at the very least. It’s worth pointing out that this particularIron Banner armor set has a special effectwhen the event is active, however. Players will have the chance to unlock both of the new weapons and a returning armor set when Iron Banner comes back next week, on March 15th
As part of this same blog post, Bungie also mentioned that the old Eternity and Vostok maps will be making a return this season, as well as the existence of an entirely new PvP map, which hasn’t happened since the launch ofForsaken, back in 2018. Some players claim thatDestiny 2’s PvP issues relate to maps themselves, citing awkward engagement ranges and chances for spawn killing in certain situations. While a single new PvP map is unlikely to solve all the problems the community has with the game mode, it could signify that Bungie is finally looking to bolster its competitive multiplayer modes inDestiny, after all this time.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
