The Pokemon Company certainly has a busy schedule ahead of E3 2019: aPokemon SwordandShielddirect is planned for June 5, and tonight the company aired a massivePokemonpress conference that has revealed several new Poke-projects. One of the newly announced projects from the The Pokemon Company is a Nintendo Switch-basedDetective Pikachugame, which looks like it’ll be a sequel to the 2016 Nintendo DS game of the same name.
The Pokemon Company refrained from saying almost anything else about the newDetective Pikachugame, though President and COO Tsunekazu Ishiharait did confirm that the title will resolve the cliffhanger ending from the first one. This implies that the Switch-basedDetective Pikachutitle will be a direct sequel, although there isn’t an official confirmation for the time being. It’s unclear if the game will pick up where 2016’sDetective Pikachuended, or if a jump in time and location will occur. The language at the press conference and in a followup tweet by the officialPokemonTwitter page also leaves the door open for the game being an enhanced port of the 3DS title, but that’s just speculation at this time.
For now, the Pokemon Company is encouraging fans to keep ‘sleuthing’ for details. Ultimately, it doesn’t take a detective to figure out thatE3 2019would be a good time for the company to show off any of its four newPokemonprojects announced tonight.
Given that theDetective Pikachufilmhas had one of 2019’s biggest launches in the box office, it makes a lot of sense for The Pokemon Company to introduce another game to the series. Nintendo Switch owners also havePokemon SwordandShieldexpected to release in late 2019, and the newly-announced Pokemon Home will allow trainers to port over their beloved Pokemon from other experiences, too.
