Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Resurrection season 1, episode 6.A dark newDexter: Resurrectionfan theory would make one of theDextersequel show’s most likable characters into one of its worst villains. Thecast ofDexter: Resurrectionis filled with colorful characters, fromResurrection’s new serial killersto thereturning characters from the originalDexter. The show has also introduced a few new characters who are just as fascinating.

Dexter: Resurrectionhasn’t, however, properly introduced one of its more intriguing figures: the New York Ripper. Leon Prater briefly spoke about the Ripper, and Claudette Wallace is obsessed with the killer, but we still don’t know who they really are. OneResurrectionfan theory, however, may hint that the show has a massive twist coming up, and one that involves a very likable character.

Blessing Kamara Is The New York Ripper – Dexter: Resurrection Fan Theory Explained

AsReddit user Head_Marzipan3470first noted, Blessing Kamara could be the New York Ripper. The theory has since grown new legs after Blessing’s confession inResurrectionepisode 6. As he told Dexter, Blessing was once a child soldier for the Revolutionary United Front in Sierra Leone, and after being beaten and drugged, he ended up killing someone.

Blessing went on to explain that Prudence told him to never bring his darkness home. The fan theory suggests thatBlessing never truly got over his dark past, and he took his mother’s advice literally: when he had to “feed” his dark passenger, he went out as the New York Ripper. That way, he could be the loving family man we know him as, just as Rapunzel does with his family.

Blessing also made a point of saying that he doesn’t know how to go on now that Prudence is dead. The death of a parent is hard for anybody, but the fan theory asserts that Prudence was essentially Blessing’s version of Harry Morgan, encouraging Blessing to be a better man and tamp down his urge to kill. He’s so devastated by her death because he now has to control his urges alone.

Some viewers have also noted that Blessing is almost too good to be true. The man is too nice, too generous, and too perfect for a show likeDexter: Resurrectionto not have some dark twist in store for him. It could be that Blessing gets killed like Brother Sam was inDexterseason 6, or it could be that he turns out to be a killer.

Could Prudence Kamara’s Cats Really Represent The New York Ripper’s Kills?

Another piece of evidence that the fan theory uses to support accusing Blessing of being the New York Ripper is Prudence’s cat collection. As we learned inResurrectionepisode 6, Prudence had an extensive collection of cat figurines because she loved the animals, but Blessing was allergic. They seem like a simple gag to have Dexter handle a porcelain cat, but there may be more there.

Reddit user Aliveinstovokorsuggested thatBlessing may be using Prudence’s cats as “trophies” for his kills as the New York Ripper. Instead of taking hair or items from his victims, Blessing may buy a cat for Prudence every time he has to leave home to let his darkness out. It would be both a way to remember each victim and to show remorse to Prudence for failing to be a better man.

We also don’t know of any trophies the New York Ripper may have taken. Prater had their murder weapon, but with what limited information we have, it seems like the Ripper didn’t take trophies at all. That may be because Blessing didn’t actually take trophies, instead using cat figurines as mementos of his kills.

Blessing Being The New York Ripper Would Be A Major New Villain Twist For Dexter

If Blessing does end up being the New York Ripper inResurrection, it would be one of the biggest villain twists in the entireDexterfranchise.Dexterhas had some big villain twists in the past, from the Doomsday Killer being one person to Captain Spencer kidnapping his own son. None of those twists, however, turned one of Dexter’s beloved friends into a killer.

So far, Blessing has been depicted as a good man and a foil to Dexter’s inability to control his dark passenger, not unlike Brother Sam. It would be devastating if Blessing isn’t a role model for Dexter, but instead yet another serial killer.Blessing would be the first killer to abuse Dexter’s trust as a friend; all the others have been acquaintances or villains from the start.

Blessing’s hypothetical reveal as the New York Ripper would, however, mirror some ofDexter’s best twists. Both Arthur Mitchell and Brother Sam, for example, gave Dexter hope that he could be a better man and father, only to kill Rita and get killed for his kindness, respectively. Blessing being a killer would be just as devastating for Dexter’s hopes of having better control over his dark passenger inDexter: Resurrection.
