Disney+has just launched a new live stream experience that specifically taps into Disney Channel fans' nostalgia. When Disney+ launched in 2019, one of the best things about it was undoubtedly the official library of all the Disney classics, including some TV shows that represent peak nostalgia for ’90s and 2000s kids.

Almost every Disney project ever made is available via the streamer, but some of thebest movies and shows on Disney+showcase the company’s continued expansion as it acquires different brands. In addition to titles under theStar Warsand MCU banners, as well as those that came with the streamer’s merging with Hulu, Disney+ also offers some live TV channels.

As of July 2025 (viacomicbook.com),Disney+’s Live TV section includes a “Throwbacks” channel, which plays classic TV shows 24/7(along with commercials to mimic the feel of traditional network viewing). Shows that may appear on this channel at any time of day includeDucktales, Gargoyles, Recess, That’s So Raven, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and much more.

What The Throwbacks Channel Means For Disney+

Disney Is Expanding Its Streaming Experience & Leaning On Nostalgia

As the streaming game is only going to get more competitive, it is important that Disney continues to update what kinds of experiences are available via its streaming service. The Throwbacks channel is essentially a shuffle function, which is a valuable offering in an economy where people may be multitasking while watching TV.

This particular shuffle feature taps into a specific yearning that people go to Disney+ to fulfill. They can watch the Throwbacks channel at any time, being hit with various shows they loved as children while possibly catching glimpses of some they weren’t so familiar with (which may direct them to check out these shows in full via the usual Disney+ library).

Thus, the Throwbacks channel should help keep Disney+ relevant.Ironically, circling back around to the network TV experience may be the most strategic play for streamers such as Disney+, which perhaps says something about these platforms' limits.

Our Take On Disney+’s Throwbacks Channel

I’ll Probably Just Watch My Favorite Throwbacks From The Library

Of course, some people might not understand the point when they can just watch all these shows (commercial-free) by searching for them in Disney+’s library, and multitasking all the same if it’s something they’ve seen before. I, for one, will always just go back to old episodes ofPhineas and Ferb.

That being said, I still see what is unique about the Throwbacks channel and how it could be a lot of fun for people who just have a vague feeling that they want to watch something comforting and from their childhood. I’ve also said that I wish streamers would further embrace the shuffle function, and I hope that this channel is a success forDisney+,so they might develop more like it in the future.
