The Night Agent Season 1 Is a Gripping Addition to the Genre

The Night Agent Was An Immediate Hit For Netflix

The Night Agentis arguably exactly what audiences should want from a great action thriller. While someaction movies and shows are more about the thrills than the actual plot,The Night Actionperfectly balances both. This means that the story is enough to keep audiences hooked, and the action actually feels justified.

The series centers on Peter Sutherland, a low-level FBI agent who works in the White House basement, monitoring a phone that never rings. However, afterhe gets a call one night from a woman named Rose Larkin, whose family was attacked, he becomes entangled in a massive conspiracy theory that could lead all the way back to the White House.

The Night Agent’s premise immediately sets up enough intrigue to keep audiences watching, and that only grows as the series progresses. As Peter and Rose grow closer, they attempt to uncover who could be behind the attack on her family, andthey are put in increasingly dangerous situations with plenty of great action.

The Night Agentalso does a great job of increasing its pacing and stakes throughout its first season. After being introduced to both Peter and Rose, the show’s writing and the actors' chemistry make audiences want to root for them. Simultaneously, including scenes centering on their attackers adds tension and mystery to who could be behind the conspiracy.

The Night Agentseason 1 was released in 2023, and in the weeks following its release, it quickly skyrocketed into the platform’s list of most watched shows. At the time,it became the sixth most watched show on Netflix. Currently, it still remains in the top 10, sitting at eighth place with 803.2 million hours viewed (viaNetflix).

The sheer number of views thatThe Night Agentseason 1 holds hints at just how good the series actually is. Likewise, its quick season 2 renewal and the resurgence in popularity thatThe Night Agenthad upon its release earlier this year highlight how drawn viewers are to Peter’s gripping story.

The Netflix Show’s Second Season Only Gets Better

Season 2 Is Even More Highly Rated

WhereThe Night Agentseason 1executes a well-formed thriller story, season 2 expands that even further.Season 2 begins 10 months after Peter and Rose uncover the truth behind the conspiracyand solidify their relationship. By this point, though, things look very different from season 1, and that surprisingly worked in the show’s favor.

Season 2 also moves the show’s setting around more, taking Peter to Bangkok, and giving Peter and Rose new enemies to face off with.

In the aftermath ofThe Night Agentseason 1’s conspiracy and reveal, the show moves Peter up to full Night Agent status, giving him plenty more opportunity for action sequences. Season 2 also moves the show’s setting around more, taking Peter to Bangkok, and giving Peter and Rose new enemies to face off with.

The changes thatThe Night Agentseason 2made were necessary for the growth of the series. After season 1 started off so strong, the show necessarily had to up the stakes somehow, and it managed to pull that off. With that being said, though, the series also retained the best elements from season 1.

Despite broadening the scope of the series considerably,The Night Agentseason 2 still relied on the conspiracy and action elements that made season 1 great. This made the installment even stronger, andThe Night Agentseason 2 even had the higher critics' ratings to match.

Interestingly, though, while critics loved it,The Night Agentseason 2 did face some criticism from audience memberswho found it too different from season 1. Some viewers also found the season’s plot too convoluted. In contrast, critics praised Gabriel Basso’s performance and the show’s ability to maintain the intensity of its pacing.
