Everybody Loves Raymondis a fantastic TV show audiences have been begging to return to screens for years now, but some of the original cast have now given a rather blunt response to a potential reboot.Everybody Loves Raymondended after 9 seasonsin 2005, and the series stands proudly as one of the most influential sitcoms of all time. When the show wrapped up with the season 9 episode “The Finale,” viewers were deeply disappointed, and they continue to feel this way to this day.
Despite the high demand for a reboot, several ofthe cast ofEverybody Loves Raymondhave recently offered their opinions on the subject. While speaking toNew York Post, Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton, who portrayed the titular character and his wife, Debra, offered a response to the possibility of the show returningTheEverybody Loves Raymondstars shot down the idea of a possible reboot, largely due to cast members Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts, who played Ray’s parents, Frank and Marie, having passed away. Romano: No, there won’t be a reboot… The obvious is: Peter [Boyle] and Doris [Roberts] and one of the kids, they’re no longer with us… We’re all heartbroken. They’re a big part of the show, the dynamic. Without them, I don’t know what the dynamic is. We love the show too much, we respect it too much to even try to do it.
Heaton: To try to do it again without the cast members that we’ve lost would be a disservice to the show… You shouldn’t try to go back and redo something that is pretty much perfect… We need to just leave it there and let people enjoy it for what it was.
What Romano & Heaton’s Comments Mean For An Everybody Loves Raymond Reboot
It’s Definitely Not Happening, Unfortunately
Any of the cast stating that areboot ofEverybody Loves Raymondis a bad thing would be enough to assume it’s unlikely to ever happen, but considering these remarks come from the lead himself and his on-screen wife, it’s safe to say it is not on the cards. For some, these comments will be disappointing, especially asRay Romano has given a flat-out no to anEverybody Loves Raymondreturn.
However, for others, it’ll be at least reassuring to know that there’s finally a definitive answer. The possibility of your favorite show coming back on the air is incredible, but there’s also the fear that the reboot won’t be as good as the original. Whileit’s likelyEverybody Loves Raymond’s reboot would’ve been amazing,no show is ever safe from potentially failing its highly anticipated return.
Our Take On Romano & Heaton Shutting Down A Reboot Of Everybody Loves Raymond
It Wouldn’t Be The Same Without The Missing Cast Members
In an ideal world, every beloved TV show would continue broadcasting forever with no dips in quality, but unfortunately, that isn’t the case. It’s a shame there’s no chance of anEverybody Loves RaymondBarone familyreunion, butRomano and Heaton’s comments are completely fair and logical.Everybody Loves Raymondmay have ended too early for many, but without the entire original cast, it wouldn’t be the same.
The deaths of Sawyer Sweeten, Peter Boyle, and Doris Roberts still sting for viewers,and so it’s understandably even harder for the rest ofEverybody Loves Raymond’s cast to imagine doing more installments of the show without them. The three portrayed Heaton and Romano’s parents/in-laws and son, and losing them was a massive hit to the TV family.
Peter Boyle, who played Frank Barone, died from multiple myeloma and heart disease in 2006 at the age of 71. Doris Roberts, who played Marie Barone, died in 2016 following a stroke at the age of 90. Sawyer Sweeten, who played Geoffrey Barone, took his own life in 2015 at the age of 19.
Plus,behind the scenes ofEverybody Loves Raymond,Sweeten’s real-life twin, Sullivan, and sister, Madylin, were also integral members of the castand played Michael and Ally, respectively. It’s sad that there definitely won’t be any more episodes ofEverybody Loves Raymond, but for the sake of the cast’s happiness and respect, it’s absolutely valid.
