Warning: This article contains spoilers forFinal Destination Bloodlines.Final Destination Bloodlineshas resurrected the supernatural horror franchise after 14 years, but willFinal Destination 7be coming to push it even further? The film series, which follows Death itself hunting down victims who have escaped its clutches by being warned about impending disaster by premonitions, is known for its Rube Goldberg-esque kills that involve chain reactions of small incidents ending in the explosively gory demise of various characters. The franchise began in 2000 and was followed by four sequels between then and 2011 before going dormant for more than a decade.
WhileFinal Destination 5was a success at the box office, grossing $157.9 million worldwide against its reported budget of $40 million,it earned considerably less than the previous installment, which remains the highest-grossing entry with $187.4 million and has the exact same reported budget. It is likely these diminishing returns are what prevented theFinal Destinationmoviesfrom returning with a sixth installment in the 2010s. However, the ongoing success ofBloodlines- which follows Death hunting down the descendants of a woman who eluded its clutches in the 1960s - could potentially turn the franchise’s fortunes around.

Final Destination 7 Latest News
Bloodlines' Directors Have Spoken About A Possible Sequel
The latest update on theFinal Destinationfranchisehas come from a conversation with Perri Nemiroff ofCollider, during whichFinal Destination Bloodlinesco-director Zach Lipovsky (who worked alongside Adam Stein) spoke about the possibility of the movie getting a sequel. He reflected that it would “take some time” to land on a story that “demanded to be made,” but he revealed thatthe filmmakers have had conversations about a continuation. Read his full comment below:
We’ve been debating that ourselves in that, honestly, at this moment, we put every idea that we possibly could think of into this movie. Every anxiety we could think of that would make for a great setpiece, every small detail, every big callback that we wanted to do, every Easter egg. Everything we could think of is in this film. I’m sure with some time, new ideas will percolate.

This one, with the bloodlines thing, it just allowed it to be so fresh, do the premonition in a different way, found a really great way of invigorating the character work, and it demanded to be made. We wouldn’t want to make another one unless it demanded to be made and we had another two hours of insanity to give people. I’m sure that can be done, but currently it’s a bit of a head-scratcher to figure out how, but it’ll take some time.
While there is not necessarily a guarantee that Lipovsky and Stein would be involved in the possibleFinal Destination 7,the franchise has so far made a habit of featuring returning directors. Other than the duo, who stepped in forBloodlines, the only movie to be helmed by a director who has not returned is the fifth instalment, which was directed by Steven Quale (Into the Storm). Previously, James Wong (2006’sBlack Christmas) had helmed the first and third installments, while David R. Ellis (Snakes on a Plane) had helmed the second and fourth.

Final Destination 7 Is Not Confirmed
It Seems Highly Likely To Happen
WhileFinal Destination 7has not yet been greenlit at the time of writing, the newest installment is a commercial and critical success to such a degree that it seems highly likely that the sequel will come to fruition before long. In its opening weekend alone, theFinal Destination Bloodlinesreleasehas shattered box office records for the franchise. It grossed $51.6 million in its first three days at the domestic box office alone, exceeding the franchise’s previous highest debut by a whopping $24.2 million.
One potential hurdle is the fact thatFinal Destination Bloodlinesis the most expensive installment, with a reported budget of $50 million. This price tag most likely places its estimated break-even point somewhere around $125 million. However,it nearly reached that milestone by the end of its first weekend in theaterswith a global haul of $102 million. In addition to seeing it rocketing onto the chart of the Top 10 highest-grossing movies of 2025 so far, this total exceeded the amount that 2003’sFinal Destination 2earned throughout its entire worldwide theatrical run.

On top of its record-breaking debut,Final Destination Bloodlinesreviewshave been almost universally glowing. It is the highest-rated movie in the franchise on Rotten Tomatoes, with both critics and audiences. 172 critics weighed in to give it a 92% score on the Tomatometer, while more than 2,500 verified user reviews have earned it a Popcornmeter score of 88%. That Tomatometer score includes the 8 out of 10 score fromScreenRant’s own Nadir Samara. Read an excerpt from his review below:
While the word “quality” is always tricky in horror, I imagine fans and skeptics will be surprised at the sheer quality of Bloodlines. Filmed for IMAX, cast very well, and ultimately well-made, Final Destination Bloodlines is a spectacle, a joyride, and easily the funniest iteration in the franchise.

Final Destination 7 Cast Details
There Are Very Few Surviving Bloodlines Characters
It ultimately seems unlikely that any characters from the sixth installment will return, because theFinal Destination Bloodlinesendingsees the final survivors from the movie perishing during a train derailment. Of the main cast of the movie, only the supporting characters Marty Reyes (Tinpo Lee) and Brenda Campbell (April Telek) are left alive, because they married into the family of Iris Campbell, whose premonition prevented a disaster at the Skyview, a tower restaurant that was meant to collapse in 1968.
The only other major character who does not die inFinal Destination Bloodlinesis William Bludworth (Tony Todd), the eerily knowledgeable mortician who has appeared in four of the six installments in the franchise. However,it is implied that Bludworth will die shortly after the events ofBloodlines, as he is the next on Death’s list after Charlie (Teo Briones) and Stefani Reyes (Kaitlyn Santa Juana), who perish in the final shot of the movie. Additionally, Todd died from stomach cancer in 2024, preventing him from returning in any future installments.
However, Bludworth’s scene reveals thatFinal Destination 2protagonist Kimberly Corman (A. J. Cook) is still aliveafter surviving her ordeal by drowning herself and being brought back to life, interrupting Death’s pattern. Her survival also implies that her fellow survivor, Officer Thomas Burke (Michael Landes), is still alive, leaving the door open for one or both of them to return inFinal Destination 7.
While it seems unlikely that either of the minor characters from the Campbell clan to surviveBloodlineswill return in a major, considering the fact that their entire family is already dead, see a breakdown of the legacy characters with the strongest potential to return inFinal Destination 7below:
Final Destination 7 Story Details
It Will Probably Follow The Same Format
While the story forFinal Destination 7has not yet been written, it seems likely the franchise will move on fromFinal Destination Bloodlines' Skyview incident, because Bludworth was the last survivor of the 1968 disaster on Death’s list. Therefore,it seems likely that the next movie will follow the precedent set by the previous sequels, which is to introduce a new disaster involving a new group of people.
The previous disasters from the franchise were a plane crash, a multi-car pileup on the freeway, a roller coaster accident, a crumbling racetrack, and a bridge collapse.
WhileFinal Destination Bloodlinesadded a few wrinkles to the formula, including the fact that Death is hunting down members of a particular family rather than a group of unrelated survivors, the new movie still followed almost exactly the same narrative structure as the previous five installments. The only other major adjustment was the fact that the Skyview premonition is also witnessed by Stefani, who is having nightmares about it at the beginning of the movie. Thus, it would make sense ifFinal Destination 7took a similar approach.
