AsFinal Fantasy 14prepares to launch on Xbox Series X/S, Square Enix has revealed that Xbox console players will need to use a new currency called the “FFXIV Coin” to pay for services and optional items. Square Enix then stated the new currency is exclusive toFinal Fantasy 14on Xbox consoles, but did not state all the services it would be used for.
The announcement arrived three days beforeFinal Fantasy 14’s planned launch on Xbox Series X/S. The developers statedthe Xbox version of the critically acclaimed MMORPGwould go live on Thursday, March 21, at 4:00 AM Eastern, just two days after the release of Patch 6.58 to the game. Patch 6.58 will fix some outstanding issues, and make some PVP job balance adjustments. As for the Xbox version ofFinal Fantasy 14, its launch will arrive after a month of open beta testing, in which Xbox Series X/S console players tested the free trial version of the game at no added cost. While the free trial will continue once the Xbox version ofFinal Fantasy 14is released, the same restrictions on player interactions will carry over.
ThoughFinal Fantasy 14on Xbox will require Xbox Game Passon top of the game’s individual subscription, another payment method will also be necessary for some purchases. Paying for some ofFinal Fantasy 14’s services on Xbox consoles will require a new currency called the “FFXIV Coin” that can be obtained from the Microsoft Store. Players must link their Xbox and Square Enix accounts before purchasing FFXIV Coins. After purchasing some FFXIV Coins, players must log intoFinal Fantasy 14via the Xbox client to add them to their Square Enix account. The exact ratio of real money to FFXIV Coins is unknown at the time of writing.
What Is The New Currency for Final Fantasy 14 on Xbox?
Square Enix stated that purchases made on the Mog Station and Online Store will only use FFXIV Coins when accessed from the Xbox client. Square Enix clarified that the Mog Station and the Online Store will still use current payment methods, including credit and debit cards when accessed from a desktop or mobile browser. Square Enix reminded players that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members canclaim theFinal Fantasy 14 Starter Editionas a Perkuntil April 19, but announced no further benefits.
Between the launch ofFinal Fantasy 14on Xbox and the long-awaitedtest for cross-region Data Center Travel, the end of March is a busy time for both Square Enix and players. Only time will tell how much use the FFXIV Coin system will see.
