Spoilers forAmazing Spider-Man #7!It’s been over six decades since Marvel’s Friendly Neighborhood Hero,Spider-Man, swung his way onto a comic panel, with his signature spider-based abilities constantly putting him a head above the rest. Utilizing a unique warning system that helps him avoid danger,Spider-Man’s Spider-Sense has just hit its limit thanks to a brutal new foe Spidey never saw coming.

Introduced as part of Spider-Man’s power set in 1962’sAmazing Fantasy #15, by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko,Spider-Man’s Spider-Sensewasn’t given an official name until a few issues intoThe Amazing Spider-Man’s inaugural run, with the full-body sensory experience Peter feels from incoming threats often being referred to as a “tingling” or a “danger sense” before then.

Hellgatehits Spider-Man before he can react to his spider-sense and sends him flying into a car

In the latest issue ofAmazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man is locked in battle against the brand-new axe-wielding villain called Hellgate. Spider-Man’s Latest Villain, Hellgate, Can Beat His Spider-Sense With Ease

Amazing Spider-Man #7 - 2025 (Joe Kelly and John Romita Jr.)

Making his debut on the final page of last month’sAmazing Spider-Man #6, this following issue sees Hellgate and Spider-Man come to blows after Hellgate murders a bunch of Hobgoblin goons right in front of Peter, sending him over the edge. Quickly closing the gap between himself and Hellgate, it’s here where the limits of Spider-Man’s Spider-Sense are revealed.

Hit by a “love tap” from Hellgate before he can react, Spider-Man is sent head-first into a nearby car’s windshield, with Spidey’s internal monologue noting how,“By the time my Spider-Sense registers that I should move, Hellgate’s already made contact,”outright telling fans that Hellgate is officially faster thanSpider-Man’s Spider-Sense.

TheSpider-Man 2film showed Peter Parker losing his powers, his Spider-Sense included.

Continuing to fight this new villain to no immediate gain, Spider-Man does his best to ignore his Spider-Sense as it tells him to “run like hell,” with Hellgate’s previously shown speed not boding well for Peter the longer this battle goes on — especially if Spidey can’t rely on his Spider-Sense’s too-little too-late warnings.

Spider-Man Can’t Utilize His Spider-Sense if He Can’t Move Fast Enough

Spider-Man’s Spider-Sense Is Usually Pretty Reliable Otherwise

Capable of moving just as fast as the incredibly quick Spider-Man is normally, the fact that Hellgate isalsofast enough to beat Spider-Man’s advanced Spider-Sense alerts is a wild sight to behold, as his display of movement may put Hellgate on the same level asMarvel speedsters like Quicksilveror the Eternal’s Makkari when he wants to be.

An ability that has served Spider-Man well over the years, Peter really only fails at capitalizing on his Spider-Sense’s precognitive tingles if he gets overwhelmed in battle, actively ignores it, or is fighting someone like Venom, who negates Spider-Man’s sixth sense, withHellgate being the first villain who has flat-out beaten Peter’s fully-functioning Spider-Sense at its own game.

Unfortunately for Spidey, Hellgate seems to have ascended to an even higher level of power by the time this issue ends, with his speed and strength likely growing tenfold if not more. And considering that Hellgate could already beatSpider-Man’slightning-quick Spider-Sensebeforethis upgrade, what hope does Peter have of beating Hellgate now?
