The July 2025 Nintendo Direct finally revealed that we’d be getting the truly incrediblePersona 3 Reloadon the Nintendo Switch 2. After releasing last year to critical acclaim, Switch fans have been quietly and patiently waiting for it to drop on Nintendo’s plucky handheld. Naturally, it is skipping the first console - something that will surely devastate many - but giving the Switch 2 a much-needed JRPG.
However, as much asPersona 3 Reloadis truly one of the verybest RPGs ever made, the Nintendo Switch 2 deserves something better. That’s not to say it deserves something of a higher quality, asPersona 3 Reloadis practically perfect throughout - aside from Tartarus, which continues to be a tad frustrating. Rather, the Switch 2 needs something thatPersona 3 Reloadsimply cannot provide, and it is about time it got it.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Deserves To Be On Switch 2
It Is Atlus' Most-Recent RPG
Despite really being one of the biggest Nintendo Direct reveals at the recent showcase, I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed at hearing thatPersona 3 Reloadwould be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. That wasn’t because I don’t lovePersona 3 Reload- I absolutely do - but because Atlus has a more recent RPG that would have been the perfect fit for the Switch 2 right now. Simply put,I don’t understand why we gotPersona 3 ReloadbeforeMetaphor: ReFantazio.
Of course, I do get thatPersona 3 Reloadis an older game, and thus should come to the Switch 2 sooner rather than later. However, as part of the first Switch 2 partner showcase, it would have been a far more exciting reveal to getMetaphorthanPersona 3 Reload. What makes this situation more frustrating is the fact that now we have Persona 3 Reload on Switch 2,we’ll likely have to wait even longer to getMetaphor: ReFantazio.

Persona Doesn’t Need To Be In Every Game Showcase
It Is All Over The Place
I’m not trying to take away anyone’s excitement about finally havingPersona 3 Reloadon the Nintendo Switch 2. It is a great game now paired with a great console and an audience who are likely very keen to finally enjoy it. That is an amazing thing, and I’m pleased more people get the chance to play it. However,it feels like we get somethingPersona-related at every game showcase these days, with thecontroversialPhantom Xreleasing not that long ago, andReloada short while before that.
Metaphor: ReFantaziois something new and exciting. It is a new IP with new ideas and not a remake of something that was already on the Nintendo Switch. As great and transformative asPersona 3 Reloadis,Metaphor: ReFantaziojust feels like more of a modern game.

The Switch 2 needs contemporary triple-A titles so as not to feel like it is constantly playing catch-up. GettingMetaphor: ReFantaziobeforePersona 3 Reloadwould have better helped sell the illusion that the Switch 2 wasn’t outdated the day it came out.
