His first “death” that didn’t last very long
Boba Fett’s most well-known “death” was inReturn of the Jediwhen he fell into the sarlacc pit. Of course, this fate didn’t last long, as the books and comics revealed that Boba’s Mandalorian armor protected him until he could escape.Boba lived for at least another 40 yearsin Legends, continuing his work as a bounty hunter and eventually becoming the new leader of the Mandalorian Protectors.
However, Boba’s life took a different turn in canon when he escaped from the sarlacc pit. 4Boba Fett Fell Into The Sarlacc Pit A Second Time In Legends
A cruel twist of fate for Boba Fett
Boba’s first escape was inStar Wars(1977) #81, released only a few months afterReturn of the Jedi. Of course, this death didn’t last either, as Boba made another escape using his jetpack. He was severely injured and close to death, but was found and saved by fellow bounty hunter Dengar. The galaxy thought Boba was dead, something he used to his advantage on assignments, but Han learned six years later that Boba had survived inStar Wars: Dark Empireby Tom Veitch and Cam Kennedy.
3The Galaxy Thought Stormtroopers Killed Boba Fett Before A New Hope
The time Boba Fett faked his death on purpose
The aptly-named comic miniseriesStar Wars: Blood Ties - Boba Fett is Deadmade it appear that the bounty hunter had died years before he fell into the sarlacc. When he was attacked by a large group of stormtroopers and mercenaries,Boba faked his death by putting his armor on the body of the man he’d been hunting. He then tracked down and killed those responsible for trying to kill him, returning to his life as a bounty hunter.
2Boba Fett Was Slain By Starkiller (In An Alternate Timeline)
A non-canon bonus level in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
There have been a fewStar Warsstories where Boba really did die, but they were never designed to be canon.Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’s Tatooine DLC picks up where the game’s dark side ending leaves off, with Starkiller tracking R2-D2 and C-3PO in an alternate version ofA New Hope. Starkiller goes to Jabba’s Palace for information but is confronted by Boba, whom he brutally kills in the ensuing fight.
1Boba Suffered Multiple Tragic Fates In Star Wars' “What If” Series
One of these fates is poetic justice
TheStar Wars Infinitiescomic series explores “What If” stories for each film in the original trilogy, meaning Boba dies more than once. InStar Wars Infinities: The Empire Strikes Back,Boba is captured at Cloud City, frozen in carbonite, and used as Lando Calrissian’s new desk. When Darth Vader arrives and Boba is nowhere to be found, he orders Cloud City’s destruction, presumably killing Boba.
InStar Wars Infinities: Return of the Jedi, Boba escapes from Jabba’s Palace with the frozen Han Solo after Leia’s rescue goes wrong. The rebels track Boba down while he attempts to sell Han to the Empire, and he is killed in the ensuing fight. These may be non-canon “What If” stories, but they’re the only timeStar Warshas really killedBoba Fett, but it’s always possible that a future canon story will give him a final send-off.
