Meemaw was a wild-hearted, free-spirited rebel throughoutYoung Sheldon’s seven seasons, and her blatant disregard for the law eventually resulted in her arrest shortly before the series finale. SinceGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriageseason 1 made George Sr.’s comebackpossible despite his death inYoung Sheldon’s antepenultimate episode, it seems reasonable to expect that the spinoff would also be able to give Dale a more interesting role in season 1.Breaking up with Meemaw would make Dale a more compelling and proactive character, but it would also give Meemaw a plot that isn’t merely a retread of her existing storylines about secret gambling scams.
There is nothing particularly compelling about watching Meemaw run through the motions of setting up another sports book scheme inGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriageseason 1, especially when she so recently renounced her love of illegal gambling. She doesn’t need the money to get by, so the stakes are low, and her decision to hire Mandy as a bookkeeper puts the titular couple’s relationship under pressure that is wholly unnecessary. This makes Meemaw feel even more self-centered, making it harder to care about her fate or this plot line.
