Last weekend, Rockstar Games ran into some issues with its online services, making it impossible for manyGrand Theft Auto 5players to play the game’s popularGTA Online multiplayer mode. Now it appears those problems have reared their ugly head again, as many users are reporting that they are unable to get online.
The issues appear to be impacting GTA Online andRed Dead Redemption 2, though it’s unclear how widespread they are at the time of this writing. The Rockstar Games server status page says that all services are working normally, but there are still many who are saying that they can’t connect. It’s possible that theGTA Online server issuesthis week didn’t last all that long and we are on the tail end of it, but that’s unclear at the time of this writing.

Last weekend’s GTA Online server issues could potentially be explained by server overload. Rockstar Games was running a promotion where it wasgiving away $2 million to GTA Online players for freejust for logging into the game. With similar promotions happening inRed Dead Redemption 2’s Red Dead Online, it’s not surprising that the servers were having trouble. However, it wasn’t actually confirmed by Rockstar if that was the issue or not, and it’s harder to say what could be causing the problems this time around.
Some may recall that the GTA Online servers inGrand Theft Auto 5were completely inaccessible around the time the game launched, and thankfully, these server issues have been very minor compared to that debacle. As previously stated, it seems as though the latest problems aren’t even necessarily all that widespread and appear to be getting resolved, so fans may even be able to log in and play by the time they read this post.
The problems this time around also don’t appear to have resulted inallofRockstar’s servicesgoing down, which is what happened last week. So all things considered, it seems this weekend’s issues aren’t nearly as bad.
We will update this post as soon as it’s 100% confirmed that GTA Online and other Rockstar Games services have been restored. In the meantime, fans ofRockstar’s titlesshould still be able to play the single-player portions of the games to pass the time.
Grand Theft Auto 5is out now for PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
