Morgana Ignis:I can safely tease what’s happening on September 10 on [Amazon] Prime. You guys have not seen [it] before. I can safely tease this. There is going to be a new episode on Prime Video. We have talked about this. It is called Mission Zero, and it is a brand new episode that basically is a good jumping off point for people who have not seen the show before. Basically, it’s kind of a pilot redo.

Richard Horvitz:And for the record, it’s a pilot redo, because while we loved our original pilot, it didn’t fit the canon of the show and what the show became. So this will kind of fix that.

What Ignis and Horvitz’s Statements Mean For Helluva Boss Season 3’s Special Episode

The pilot episode ofHelluva Bossintroduced IMP, an assassination service run by protagonist Blitzø where denizens of Hell could ask him and his crew to kill living persons they believed wronged them. It established the series as a dark comedy while offering general characterization for Blitzø, Moxxie, Millie, and Loona. However, the show has since evolved beyond its roots.

As newepisodes ofHelluva Bosshave come out, the show has changed focus from being about IMP’s dubious morality and hitman exploits to their personal lives. This has included more dramatic storylines, such as the love story between Blitzø and the Goetic demon Stolas, alongside musical numbers akin toHazbin Hotelthat move the story forward in various ways.

Helluva Bosswas originally produced as a YouTube spinoff ofHazbin Hotelprior to its upcoming move to Prime Video.

By theend ofHelluva Bossseason 2, the show is less about IMP’s ventures and more about the characters as they grow and change. Based on what Ignis and Horvitz said, “Mission Zero” will better reflect this direction for the series. Acting as a do-over of the pilot, the episode can readily deliver beginnings for viewers new and old.

Our Take On Helluva Boss Season 3’s “Pilot Redo” Special

While it’s unclear what will transpire in “Mission Zero,” the new special episode sounds like it’ll be more readily exploring characters and their backgrounds based on what seasons 1 and 2 have established. This can include smoothing out later retcons like Blitzø and Stolas knowing each other as children, alongside how IMP’s members met one another.

The information in the episode could also tie into the storyline for the rest ofHelluva Bossseason 3, depending on what it establishes. This could include anything relating to why Millie is so worried about her pregnancy, to how Blitzø and Stolas' relationship could progress. For now, the episode promises a more succinct pilot within the larger narrative.

Helluva Boss' “Mission Zero” episode arrives Wednesday, September 10 on Prime Video.
