Lead star and executive producer sheds light on how he could return as Harry Bosch after theBosch: Legacyseries finale. The last chapter ofBosch: Legacy, itself a continuation of the originalBosch, was at least partially about spotlighting Maggie Q in the role of Renée Ballard as she prepares to lead her own series. Welliver is confirmed to make guest appearances in the new series, buthis time as the main protagonist, at least for now, has come to an end.

In an interview withScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns, Welliver went into detail about how he could reprise the role of Harry Bosch. In previous remarks, the actor has floated the possibility of a follow-up movie similar to the upcoming return of John Krasinski as Jack Ryan. In the quote below, Welliver mentions that theBoschadaptation was initially pitched as a movie andcould work either as a feature or a TV revival:

Titus Welliver as Harry Bosch in Bosch Legacy season 3, episode 6

You know, I think any opportunity to to realize this character, or re-realize this character, would be great. I think it works both ways. Initially, when Connelly had scripts and they were shopped around to studios, nobody seemed to be able to figure out how to make a proper film of it. What Michael came to the realization of is that to serialize it made it work really well. So I think it’s either or. And now, after 10 years of doing the show and all the creatives, Michael Connelly, Eric Overmyer, Thomas Bernardo, and the cast, we all know how it works and how to make that machine run. So it really works in both ways. And if you consider the scope of the show, Bosch doesn’t feel like episodic television, even though it’s serialized that way. We had the liberty and the grace to be able to shoot that show like you would shoot a 50-minute film, and that was my experience as an actor. It was very, very different than shooting the regular format of episodic TV. We would still shoot the same amount of pages, but we would pace ourselves to a certain degree, and allow stuff to happen organically, which occurs when you’re shooting a film.

What Welliver’s Comments Mean For The Future Of Bosch

Another Revival Is Not Out Of The Question

The cast ofBosch: Legacyhave been upfront about how they are sad to say goodbye to the long-running action drama. In the same interview withScreenRant, the star and executive producer shared that he would miss Harry and doesn’t feel great about saying goodbye to a character. But the actor has also maintained, especially with the success of similar shows likeReacherandJack Ryan, that it is still possible for Harry Bosch to find his way back to audiences. This doesn’t come as a surprise sincethe star previously spoke about plans for season 4before Prime Video decided not to move forward.

For the moment, at least, the attention will turn toMaggie Q in the Ballard spinoff. Welliver also has another potential new drama in the works, ashe’s attached to a potential spinoff ofThe Equalizerfor CBS. He’ll star oppositeHarlem’s Juani Feliz in an episode ofThe Equalizerseason 5, which will air on April 20 at 10 PM ET. He’ll play a CIA vet, but his affinity for Harry leaves his well-known portrayal in play.

Our Take On Bosch’s Return

Give It Time

After a decade in the role,Bosch: Legacyis distinguished even beyond its link tothe Michael Connelly novels. That would make its return a fairly easy list, even after a few years. But perhaps, by waiting a few years and giving the absence time to really mean something, there will be a new angle to explore if Harry does eventually find his way back to audiences.
