Demon Slayer’s long-awaitedInfinity Castlemovie is finally out, kicking off a trilogy of films that will depict the final battle seen in the closing chapters of the manga. But with a substantial portion of the manga left to adapt, just how many chapters did this first movie manage to cover?

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castlehas been hotly anticipated. The Infinity Castle arc in the manga begins with chapter #140, and more or less goes until the story ends in chapter #205. That means there are 66 chapters left to adapt (including #140 itself), and three movies, so one would expect each movie to cover about 22 chapters.

That’s not actually how many chapters were adapted intoInfinity Castlepart 1, however.

How Many Chapters Did Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 Cover?

The Film Adapted Roughly 18 Manga Chapters

According to reports from Japanese fans, the movie goes all the way to the end of theTanjiro and Giyu vs. Akaza battle, which is finally resolved at the start of chapter #157. While some other fights are featured, this one makes up the main driving force of the film, and as such, its finale represents where the first movie ends.

That means thatDemon Slayer: Infinity Castlepart 1 actually only covered 18 chapters, not the full 22 that most fans expected. This may pose an issue for parts 2 and 3, asInfinity Castlepart 1 was already quite a long movie at 2.5 hours. Could the later installments of the trilogy be 3 hours, or even longer?

One solution would be to cut content, but according to fan reports, theInfinity Castlepart 1 film added a fairly significant amount of original content that wasn’t in the manga, so it seems like the studio, ufotable, isn’t all that interested in cutting any content if they can avoid it.

How Has Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Been Received So Far?

TheInfinity Castlemovie has been an indisputable hit; it’s already the #2 highest-grossing film in Japan for the year, just behindDetective Conan, and its run in theaters has only just begun. While fans and audiences have been very enthusiastic for the new movie, critical reviews of the film have been more mixed.

One frequent complaint has to do with the film’s pacing. With battles being disrupted by flashbacks, as is standard practice forDemon Slayer(and indeed, many shonen manga), the pacing of important scenes in the present can feel disjointed and uneven. This also contributes to the movie’s long run time.

On the other hand, reviewers have also found the film to be beautifully animated, as has come to be expected of ufotable, and quite faithful to the manga overall. As such, there’s definitely a lot for fans to look forward to in the upcoming movie.

Demon Slayer: Infinity CastlePart 1 will debut in the US on Aug 13, 2025, meaning American fans need only count down for a few weeks longer before they can finally see the film for themselves.
