Once you make it to the Gestral Village in Act 1 ofClair Obscur: Expedition 33,you’ll find a ton of strange and fascinating NPCs, vendors, the Gestral Tournament, and even an odd courtyard that might appear completely pointless on your first visit. However, there’s a mysterious Gestral Gambler at the back of these grounds that has a little riddle for you, and answering correctly will reward you with a rather unique Pictos that can actually be incredibly useful in the early game.

The Gestral Village is among your first major stops in Act 1, so be sure to explore it thoroughly. Whenyou find the Gestral Gambler at the back of the casino grounds, you will be able to speak with him through the door, and he’s going to ask you to answer what seems like a complicated math problem. Lucky for you, the solution to this puzzle is not very complicated, and no math is required in the end. Once you give the gambler the correct answer, you’ll be rewarded with the unique Roulette Pictos, which has a pretty quirky yet potentially powerful effect.

Where To Find The Gestral Gambler In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Look For Pink Torches & Neon Flashing Lights

During Act 1, after you navigate your way through the Ancestral Village maze, you’ll be able to pass through to the Gestral Village and meet some of the combat-obsessed Gestrals living there. There is a lot to discover in the Gestral Village, including a unique merchant, a ton of Gestrals you can engage in dialogue with, and even a trickster who sells you Excalibur,a supposedly incredible weapon that in reality is just an old wooden toy swordthat I’m not convinced has any purpose other than to make you feel like a fool.

The Gestral gambler isn’t too difficult to find as long as you’re exploring the Gestral Village thoroughly. Looking at the main Chief House, head around the path to the right and follow it back until you see a little stadium with a Gestral playing guitar on stage. Continue to head past this on the same path until you see a sign that reads"An Unbearable Smell Lurks Away,“and follow that straight ahead. You’ll see a big open area with glowing pink torches and a neon sign at the back.

There’s a Gestral standing at the front who explains his plans for the grand casino with jazz music and dancing. Grab the Recoat to your right before heading to the veryback of the casino under the flashing neon"Game Club"sign, where you’ll be able to speak with the Gestral gambler on the other side of the door.

How To Answer The Gestral Gambler In Clair Obscur

The Gestral Gambler’s Trick Question Isn’t That Tricky After All

After speaking with the Gestral gambler and letting him know you like to gamble, he’ll ask you a seemingly complicated question with four different possible responses. You don’t need to think too hard about these answers, as the “correct” answer doesn’t require any real brainpower:

“Let’s say that every time I hit, I have a 50 percent chance of dealing 100% damage. What are my chances of dealing more damage in the long run?”

From here, you will receive four different options to reply:

First off, don’t panic if you think you need to whip out a calculator to figure out the correct answer, as you can actually repeat this dialogue over again even if you get the answer wrong. The “correct” answer, or at least the one that gets you the reward, is"I don’t care.“Throwing caution to the wind is the gambler’s way,and this Gestral gambler will appreciate your disinterest in trying to find a logical approach to gambling.

The reward for solving this little riddle is a shiny new Pictos with an appropriately themed effect. The Roulette Pictos is a unique Pictos with a passive effect thatcauses every hit to have a 50% chance to deal either 50% or 200% of its damage. If you want to figure out your likelihood of getting maximum damage out of this Pictos, now’s the time to get that calculator out.

Overall, the Gestral gambler’s riddle is a quirky and fun little side adventure that results in an easy-to-get new Pictos with a pretty fun and unique effect.
