Then, Krysten Ritter brought the character to life through the self-titled Netflix series, as well as Defenders, turning her into an icon. In an interview with Michael Rosenbaum for hisInside of Youpodcast, when asked if she’d be willing to reprise the role of Jessica Jones for any property within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Krysten Ritter gave a resounding yes, but it’s Ronsenbaum’s follow-up question that deserves a bigger discussion. He’d quickly transition into asking Ritter if she created the look for Jessica Jones, to which her answer was even more of a resounding yes.
However, there must have been a misunderstanding either in Ritter’s answer or how much she understands her contributions, because Jessica Jones' iconic look pre-dates the show.

The Comics Tell a Different Story
The character ofJessica Jones first debuts inAlias#1by Brian Michael Bendis, Michael Gaydos, Matt Hollingsworth, and Richard Starkings. The issue was released in September 2001 and in it, the title star would be seen wearing a leather jacket and a black top with dark jeans. This is the look that Jessica Jones would frequently be seen in across all three seasons of her Netflix show, as well asThe Defenders. Jones' footwear inAliaswas usually inconsequential and often obscured off-panel, but her 2010 run with New Avengers incorporated the same ankle-high boots she wears on Netflix.
As for Jessica Jones' infinity scarf from the television series, it’s rare to see her neck covered at all in the comics. There are exceptions, like inAlias#6 where she wears a turtleneck, but a scarf isn’t a regular accessory for her. If anything, prior to the Netflix show airing, she might be seen wearing a scarf underneath her leather jacket, but it isn’t as prominent of a focal point in her wardrobe appearance compared to the more iconic jacket. Since it isn’t as prominent prior to the show, this might be somethingRitter herself incorporated into Jessica Jones.

No one wants to call Krysten Ritter a liar, but she may be mistaken as far as the full-extent of her impact on Jessica Jones' wardrobe. Every actor incorporates qualities of themselves into a character, and this certainly may have been the case for Ritter, especially if she’s referring specifically to adding a scarf to Jones,the only inconsistent garment for Jessica Jones in the comics. However, the iconic jacket, jeans, and boots ensemble existed long before the show came out, and so theJessica Jonesactress cannot accurately state claim to the entire wardrobe.
