TheBlademovie starring Mahershala Ali might never come out, as theMarvel Cinematic Universeproject has received yet another negative update.Bladewas announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, with Ali walking onstage to thunderous applause. Everything seemed lined up for the project to become one of theMCU’s most exciting movies, as Ali makes for a perfect Blade.
However,Bladehas suffered many delays, with story concepts constantly changing, sets being scrapped, and the MCU movie losing both actors and directors.Bladewas even removed from theMCU’s slate of projects, with the film indefinitely delayed by Marvel Studios. However, the MCU movie seemed to be working towards a return recently.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shared aBladeproduction update. He revealed there had been four versions of the movie in development, with a script set in the modern day moving forward at Marvel. After Feige’s comments, I believed theMCU’s Blade moviewas finally getting close to happening. However,a new update makes it seem like that could never happen.
Marvel Studios' Blade Movie Just Received A Negative Update
The MCU Movie Is Not A Priority
Not long after Feige’s comments, a new light has been shed on Blade by an MCU report. According toVariety,Marvel has “no sense of urgency” when it comes to the Blade movie or a sequel toDeadpool & Wolverine. Given how the latter starred two characters who make perfect sense for the MCU’s next Avengers movies, I can understand it.
Deadpool 4could easily be worked on in a few years, afterAvengers: Secret Wars. However,Blade’s situation is completely different. Ali was cast in 2019, with the actor already being 51. WithBlade’s series of delays and the actor’s packed schedule — Ali just starred inJurassic World Rebirth—the star could soon lose interest.
Recently, Ali joked about his MCU situation during an interview withVoguefor the Jurassic World movie. After co-star Jonathan Bailey had to name the MCU movies Ali and Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson starred in,Ali quipped, “Leave me out of it.”
Why The MCU’s Blade Movie Being Scrapped Would Make Sense For The Franchise
An MCU Reboot Could Complicate Things
At this point, I feel like Marvel might just be better off scrapping the Blade movie. Yes, it would be exciting to see Mahershala Ali finally play Blade after such a long wait. However, he is not getting any younger, and with anMCU reboot inAvengers: Secret Warsconfirmed,it might make more sense to wait and cast a younger Blade.
Blade is a supernatural character that isnot inherently necessary for the final stretch of the Multiverse Saga. By scrapping the MCU’s Blade movie and casting a new actor as the character in the rumored Midnight Suns film or another team-up project, Marvel could hit the ground running withBlade. The hero could then be key to the MCU’s next decade.
