TheSex and the CityspinoffAnd Just Like That…seems to be working towards a major Carrie Bradshaw revelation, and honestly, it’s about time. Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) story inAnd Just Like Thatseason 3 largely revolves around her complicated, long-distance relationship with Aidan Shaw (John Corbett), and the difficulties Aidan is facing with his youngest son, Wyatt (Logan Souza).
Famously, of course,Aidan was Carrie’s second great love in the originalSex and the City. Their relationship eventually crumbled under the weight of Carrie’s infidelity and Aidan’s need for control, but, after Carrie’s husband, Big (Chris Noth), died in theAnd Just Like Thatpilot,Aidan and Carrie miraculously managed to rekindle their relationship. This gave Carrie the second chance she (apparently) secretly always longed for.

Weirdly, while Carrie’s story is a direct continuation of one of her biggest romances fromSex and the City, the other originalSATCwomen have been given a new direction. InAnd Just Like Thatseason 3, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) continues to explore her sexuality, whileCharlotte (Kristin Davis) deals with her husband’s major health scare.
Carrie, meanwhile, is stuck in a time loop, and honestly? I desperately want her to get out. Thankfully,And Just Like Thatseason 3, episode 7, “They Wanna Have Fun,” seems to be setting the stage for a major, and hopefully final, breakup.
Miranda’s Line To Carrie About Aidan In And Just Like That Season 3, Episode 7 Signals Their Romance Will Finally End For Good
Miranda Told Carrie The Cold, Hard Truth About Her Relationship With Aidan
InAnd Just Like Thatseason 3, episode 7, at the end of a long, karaoke-filled celebration of Charlotte’s undisclosed birthday, Miranda and Carrie share an after-party debrief. However, the gab session quickly escalates whenMiranda mentions that she saw Carrie"having fun"and vibing with Duncan (Jonathan Cake), Carrie’s downstairs neighbor, and Carrie becomes immediately and inexplicably defensive.
She feels Miranda was implying Carrie was somehow being unfaithful to Aidan, when all Miranda was trying to say was that she liked seeing Carrie have a good time, rather than worrying about her relationship with Aidan.“Aidan and I are over 20 years in,“Carrie responds,“and it’s complicated right now.“That pretty much sums up the whole issue.
In the end, after Miranda leaves, Carrie takes a moment for herself, clearly contemplating what Miranda said.I don’t think Carrie was genuinely mad at Miranda; how could she be, when Miranda was merely stating the obvious?I believe Carrie is angry with herself.
She’s on the cusp of regretting her relationship with Aidan, but having an understandably difficult time admitting it to herself.“It’s fine,“as she says at the end of the episode, isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement, however. And why should it be?Aidan technically cheated on her. Their roles have been flipped.
It’s Finally Time For Carrie To Leave Behind Her Old Sex And The City Romances
Carrie Deserves To Explore Something New And Exciting
In any revival series, it’s understandable that the show would want to revisit old relationships gone wrong. And Just Like Thathas done that now, and clearly,Carrie and Aidan still aren’t right together. Love isn’t always enough. Being in a sort of committed, semi-monogamous relationship with a man who doesn’t even live in the same state just isn’t sustainable.
Giving Carrie a brand-new love interest will give her story, and the show, some much-needed levity.
If Aidan and Carrie do break up at some point this season (there are only five episodes left), Carrie deserves to explore a new romantic relationship. She’s pretty much been in the same two relationships for the past 30 years. In the grand scheme of things, even steady boyfriends like Berger (Ron Livingston) and Aleksandr Petrovsky (Mikhail Baryshnikov) didn’t impact Carrie’s life as much as Aidan and Big did.
Whether her next relationship ends up being with Duncan or someone else, giving Carrie a brand-new love interest will give her story, and the show, some much-needed levity. It can’t all be fun and games, but doesn’t Carrie, much like Charlotte, deserve to have some fun onAnd Just Like That…?
New episodes ofAnd Just Like Thatseason 3 drop weekly on Thursdays on HBO Max.
