Iconic horror franchises have proven time and again that they are ripe forvideo gameadaptations. The sadly short-livedFriday the 13thgame was a lot of fun, and games likeAlien: Isolationhave done a good job recreating the atmosphere of their source material. Now, another well-known horror franchise will be joining these ranks with what looks to be an exciting new entry into the series.
Aside from aDead by Daylightcrossover, this is the first time this famous horror series will be adapted into a video game. That isn’t for lack of trying, as there have been several canceled projects in the past. However, it looks as thoughwe will be finally getting the game this fan-favorite franchise deserves.

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival Has Been Revealed
Hellraiser: Revival Is A Survival Horror Action Game Based On Clive Barker’s Famous Series
Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games have revealed that they will be making a game based on the popularHellraiserseries.Clive Barker’s Hellraiser Revivalis the first-ever game based on the film series, which itself was based on Barker’s novella,The Hellbound Heart. The game is a story-driven survival horror experience where players square off against the iconic hell priest, colloquially called Pinhead, and a cenobite-worshipping cult.
Based on the game’suncensored red-band trailer, which is available on its officialwebsite, it will be leaning heavily into the psychosexual elements of Barker’s original story and the firstHellraiserfilm. There also seems to be plenty of explicit violence, carried out by both the cenobites and player-character Aidan. Overall,it looks like the game will include everything fans of the series have come to expect.
Our Take: It’s Great To See Horror Icons Getting New Games
Hellraiser Has Deserved A Video Game Adaptation For A While
Hellraiserfeels long overdue for avideo game adaptation, so it’s nice to see one finally come to fruition. As much as I enjoy chuckling at Pinhead’s suggestive voice lines inDead by Daylight, it will be nice to get a game dedicated specifically to the IP. In general,it’s also just nice to see more major horror franchises get video game adaptations.
Horror is a genre that translates beautifully intovideo games. The interactive nature of the medium can help enhance scares that are otherwise dulled by the sense of separation between characters in a movie and the audience. Watching the cenobites pursue an unwitting participant in their extreme sensory experiences is one thing, but having to evade them yourself becomes much more heart-pounding. Hopefully, Saber Interactive will deliver aHellraiserexperience that fully captures the tone and themes of the original, and won’t just be surface-level fan service like some of the later films.
