With Metroidvanias on the rise, going back to this beloved classic makes sense for Nintendo.Metroiditself seems to be leaning in the FPS direction withMetroid Prime 4: Beyond,soa remake title with the classic formula could help flesh out theMetroidIP in the modern era. It would be perfect for younger gamers to play one of the best games of its genre with a new coat of paint.

Super Metroid Could Benefit From The Samus Returns Treatment
Metroidhas already had a remake of a classic withSamus Returns, remakingMetroid 2. This was the title beforeSuper Metroid, and it shows thatNintendo knows that remaking classicsis a great way for theMetroidseries to slowly continue on. With the classic Metroidvania formula so popular with the indie market, and the Switch being a comfortable home for many indies, it is a project that makes sense for Nintendo.
Metroid Dreadshowed that this type of game would work well, andDreadis perhaps the blueprintthat aSuper Metroidremake could follow.Dreadremains the best-selling title in the franchise, and for good reason. It showed that Nintendo still knows how to make a great Metroidvania, so it clearly has the tools, the team, and the methods to make a worthySuper Metroidremake, andDread’s impressive sales show there’s a market for it.

As Long As This Classic Is Readily Available, We Can Wait
The Switch Gives Super Metroid A Modern Audience
While not quite as good as a shiny new remake, Switch users canplay one of the best Metroidvaniasrelatively easily.Super Metroidholds up incredibly well for a game made in 1994, and for the time being, the classic games library is adequate. ASuper Metroidremake is something that would help the series grow, but theMetroidfranchise is finally getting some games anyway.
Metroid Dreadcame out in 2021 andMetroid Prime 4: Beyondis coming out later in the year. That’s two new games in four years, which is a lot for a series that was relatively quiet in the 2010s. ASuper Metroidremake would put fans of the franchise into a dream land, and help remind everyone about theMetroidpart of theMetroidvania.
