What The Last Mrs. Parrish Adaptation Means For Jennifer Lopez
Her Recent Movie Hits Explained
The Motherreviewsmay have been generally negative from critics, but that film was a major viewership hit on Netflix. It was, for a time, in the streamer’s top 10 movies of all time list, though it has since fallen out. Lopez’s second collaboration with the streamer,Atlas, was met with even more negative reviews, and it spent several weeks at the top of Netflix’s weekly top 10 list. These Netflix collaborations are on top of Lopez’s role inShotgun Wedding(2022) for Prime Video, which was also a hit despite poor reviews.
Lopez, then, is a proven audience draw even if she hasn’t had a critical success in some time. Zemeckis, on the other hand, is coming off ofHere(2024), which was neither a critical success nor a box office hit. The response to his previous movie,Pinocchio(2022), was negative as well, buthe does have an Oscar win under his belt, taking home the Best Director statue forForrest Gump(1994), which also won for Best Picture. WithThe Last Mrs. Parrish, both Lopez and Zemeckis have an opportunity to break their poor critical trends.

Our Take On Lopez & Zemeckis' New Collaboration
Will Zemeckis Finally Deliver Another Hit?
Though critics haven’t liked many of Lopez’s recent projects, it’s clear that audiences have. Even when the material isn’t good,Lopez’s presence is seemingly enough to make a movie worth watching, and this bodes well forThe Last Mrs. Parrish. The film was on fairly sure footing without being based on popular source material, but the fact the novel was such a hit means it will also appeal to the readers who enjoyed it.
Zemeckis' recent track record isn’t promising, butForrest Gump, and other movies likeBack to the Future,Flight(2012), andCast Away(2000) suggest he certainly has the capacity to make great films. It remains to be seen how theThe Last Mrs. Parrishwill fare with audiences and critics, but theLopezproject seems sure to be a buzzy one.
