Magic: The Gatheringwill be having a special panel for its upcomingFinal Fantasycrossover set at PAX East. Promotional material for the event promises that we’ll be getting a look at some new cards, and I’m pretty sure I know at least one character who will show up. The event’s special guest is a pretty big hint at what we’ll see.

I’ve been eagerly followingMagic’sFinal Fantasyset sinceits first card previews, and I’m excited to see what gets shown off at PAX. Aside from my one prediction, I’m not sure what else we might see.Final Fantasyis such a massive franchise, it’s hard to know which characters and creatures are going to be included, and which will have to be left out. That said, I’m pretty sure oneFinal Fantasyprotagonist is a shoo-in now.

FF16’s Clive Is Likely Coming To Magic: The Gathering

Clive Actor Ben Starr Is Hosting The PAX Panel

Magic: The Gathering’s PAX panel will be hosted by actor Ben Starr, who announced his appearance onTwitter. Starr plays protagonist Clive Rosfield inFinal Fantasy 16, so his hosting gig at aFinal Fantasyevent makes total sense. It also makes me think that we’ll likely be seeing a card for Clive previewed atMagic’s PAX panel. This will be exciting for a few reasons, including that we haven’t seen any new cards fromFinal Fantasy 16revealed yet. We have seen a card forClive’s dog Torgal, but it’s just a reskin of an existingMagic: The Gatheringcard, Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful.

I’m also interested to see how Clive’s abilities translated intoMagic: The Gatheringmechanics. I could see Clive being able to gain the abilities of other cards on the battlefield, similar to how he absorbs Eikon power from Dominants. It’d also be cool to see Clive potentially as a dual-faced card, with his human side on the front and the back being one of the new Saga creatures for Ifrit. IfCeles’Magic: The Gatheringcardis any indication, it could also be more of a thematic ability than a literal one.

What Else To Expect From Magic’s PAX Event

Magic: The Gathering Is Featuring Some Unexpected Guests

One thing that took me a bit by surprise was the announcement thatMagic: The Gathering’s PAX East event will be featuring a few more guests that make far less sense thanFF16’s Ben Starr. Professional wrestlersAdam ColeandKenny Omegaboth announced that they would be part of the event. While both have played or at least discussedFinal Fantasygames on stream in the past, I still wasn’t expecting them to turn up at anMTGpanel.

Although we’ve seen a decent number of cards previewed already, I’m guessing we’ll also get a fresh round of newFinal Fantasycards shown off at PAX East. I’m continuing to play my way through the games in the series that I haven’t yet in anticipation, so I’m hoping I will be fully prepared to evaluate all the new PAX cards with the eye of a well-informed super fan by the time they get spoiled. I’m also just interested in seeing how our first full Standard legalUniverses BeyondMagic: The Gatheringset looks in terms of balance.
