Marvel is upending itsX-Mencontinuity with the seismicAge of Revelationcrossover event, coming this fall, and at this year’sSan Diego Comic-Con,the company’s top editor warned fans not to expect the franchise to revert back to its pre-Revelationstatus quo when the event is over.At least, that is, without some major lasting consequences of the storyline.
Age of Revelation#0, by the creative team of Jed McKay and Humberto Ramos, set the stage for a dystopianX-Menarc that is as ambitious as it is bleak.

Yet unlike many similarX-stories,Marvel Editor C.B. Cebulski promised that this isn’t a case where “everything’s going to go back and be nice again”when the dust settles.
Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief Has A Message For Fans About The Consquences Of “Age Of Revelation”
X-Men: Age Of Revelation Overture#1, By The Creative Team Of Jed McKay And Ryan Stegman; Available October, 2025 From Marvel Comics
X-Men: Age of Revelationis a spiritual successor to1995’sAge of Apocalypse, which replaced all existingX-titles at the time with dark future counterparts.Revelationdoes the same, but on an even more ambitious scale; nearly twenty tie-in books have been announced for the crossover event, making it even more sprawling than Marvel fans have become accustomed to.
That said, as excited asX-Menfans are to discover howAge of Revelation’soverarching storyline and its many subplots all play out, there hasbeen a default assumption among fans that by the end,X-Menand Marvel continuity will be reset to “normal,”just as withAge of Apocalypseand other dark futureX-tales.

However,Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski cautioned readers against this expectation. At Comic-Con 2025’sX-Menpanel, he told the audience:
This is not Age of Apocalypse. Do not expect an alternate world where things are different and everything’s going to go back and be nice again.
With that tease, Cebulski effectively, and shrewdly, kicked the door wide open to speculation about whatAge of Revelationhas in store, and what its long-term fallout for the Marvel Universe might be.
“Age Of Revelation” Is Hitting More Than Just The X-Men Franchise, Suggesting A Significant Impact On Marvel Lore
All Of Marvel’s Top Heroes (And Villains) Are Getting Involved
Age of Revelationis doing more than justenveloping theX-Menfranchise; the crossover is swallowing upmany of Marvel’s major characters, including Iron Man, Spider-Man, and more. So,if the event is expected to have significant consequences for the Marvel Universe moving forward, its impact should reverberate far beyond the mutant cornerof the world.
Meanwhile, as far as theX-Menare concerned,Age of Revelationis already notable for turning some of the franchise’s most beloved heroes into villains, including Wolverine and Storm. Others, including Rogue, are seemingly set to be killed off. Finally, many characters areadopting entirely new roles inX-Menlore, some of which could stick beyond the crossover’s climax.
X-Men: Age Of Revelation Overture#1will be available August 14, 2025 from Marvel Comics.
