Microsoft Flight Simulatorwas a surprise hit when Asobo Studio released the flight simulation title in 2020. Released during a time where many people could not travel due to ongoing world events, the flight simulation game has seen regular updates adding new worldlandmarks like the Swiss Matterhornand major cities like Helsinki. Now, a new development update showed off some new planes coming to the popular game in future updates.
Microsoft Flight Simulatorhas seen critical acclaim following its July 2020 release amidst the ongoing pandemic. The Asobo Studio-developed flight simulator was Microsoft’s first flight simulation game since 2012’sMicrosoft Flightand was named Best Sim/Strategy Game at the 2020 Game Awards. The game has regularly been updated over the year and three months since its release and a recent reveal from Asobo shows off some of the newest planes being added.

Friday’s development update forMicrosoft Flight Simulatorshowed off several new planes that will be joining the game’sroster of thirty-plus planes. Among the aircraft shown off during the reveals were the Cessna 337C Super Skymaster and the F-16 Fighting Falcon. Several other previously announced planes including the Airbus A310-300 received plenty of new screenshots and SimWorks Studio also announced the upcoming addition of the Van’s Aircraft R-14. Five different planes were featured during the presentation with screenshots showing off both the exteriors and the cockpit views of the planes.
The upcoming planes were not the only new content to be featured during Friday’s development update as several of Asobo’s partner studios also showed off newlocales coming toMicrosoft Flight Simulator. FlyTampa announced the addition of Greece’s Athens International Airport for purchase through their own store for $17.99 and Onfinal Studio announced the upcoming addition of Norway’s Mehamn Airport, scheduled to release before the end of 2021. Simnord’s Aarhus Airport in Denmark was also confirmed to be sent to Microsoft for approval and testing with screenshots showing off the lush forests surrounding the airport.

For many fans stuck at home during the pandemic,Microsoft Flight Simulatorhas become an “escape” allowing its players to travel the world from the comfort of their own homes. Alongside the various locales players can visit while soaring through the world’s skies, the game has provided many unique experiences for its players, even allowing players tofly into August’s Hurricane Ida.Microsoft Flight Simulatorhas established itself over the year since its release as a flight simulator with staying power and the support of its various development studios should ensure the game will thrive into the future.
