Summary

Mortal Kombat 1’s Kameo Fighter system brought an interesting opportunity to pair up characters that would normally never be caught dead working together. This system brings a unique gameplay style toMortal Kombat 1,allowing players to always have a “tag team” partner. During fights, players can send out their Kameo Fighter to perform special moves that may either harm an opponent or add buffs to the player character. Being a first for the franchise, the Kameo Fighter system saw many interesting characters from throughout theMKseries return in a new way. With a selection including both unique Fighters and characters on the main roster ofMK1, seemingly any character from theMortal Kombatuniverse can be a Kameo.

Although the starting roster was great, there are some other characters that should make the list. With an alreadyimpressive list of Kameos at the start ofMortal Kombat 1’s lifespan, it begs the question of who will be added. As has been shown with Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Kung Lao, characters can be on both the main roster and the Kameo Fighter list. There are currently characters on the playableMK1roster and some who are not that would make for interesting Kameo Fighters in future Kombat Packs. With a current lineup of 15 Kameo Fighters and more on the way, players can speculate on who will be joining the fray next.

Mortal Kombat 1’s Future Kameo Fighters

TheMortal Kombatuniverse has a rich history filled with dozens of interesting characters that would make for great Kameo Fighters. Some of the currently playable Fighters would make for exciting Kameos in the same vein as Sub-Zero or Scorpion. For instance, analternate version of Reptile could make for a unique Kameo. Using the force ball technique, acid spit, or some form of invisibility as an assist would be a lot of fun. Also, an evil version of Sindel would be cool to see, perhaps the one fromMortal Kombat 11, as a Kameo. Her scream ability and hair whip would make for great assist moves.

AsMK1’s story introduced, all versions of the characters can exist simultaneously in alternate timelines. Therefore, Kameos could include specific versions ofcharacters from otherMortal Kombattitles such asMK11’s Evil Raidenor even Zombie Liu Kang fromMortal Kombat: Deception. Recent leaks have suggested a version of Johnny Cage will be joining the Kameo list with Kombat Pack 1 along with several other characters new to the game including Ferra, Khameleon, Mavado, and Tremor. All of these Kameo Fighters are returning characters from previousMortal Kombattitles.

Non-playable characters that were shown inMK1’s story modesuch as Cassie Cage, Kung Jin, Jacqui Briggs, or Takeda could be interesting Kameos. Characters referenced but not shown in the story mode that fans may like to see come back, including Kotal Khan, D’Vorah, Sheeva, and Jade. There were even brief references to characters from the mostly forgottenMortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero,Jataaka and Kia, who were assassins sent after Ashrah inMK1’s timeline.

With a heavy focus on the 3D eraMortal Kombatgames, future characters could be drawn from them. Characters like Hotaru, Drahmin, Blaze, or Taven could do well witha revamp akin to the other 3D-era characters inMK1. One of the seemingly more easy choices for a Kameo Fighter would be Noob Saibot, whose fighting style always revolved around sending out assist characters. Perhaps as a Kameo, Noob could send out multiple shadow versions and distract the enemy. That would also allow players to see a return of the Noob/Smoke team fromMK: Deception. With no confirmation on what characters will get added in the future, players will just have to wait and see.

Mortal Kombat 1is available now on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
